Maximus V Extreme SLi Question

Hey guys,

I recently bought the Maximus V Extreme. System runs great. Now my CPU is using the Noctua D14 as a cooling solution. (They are pretty big). I have a EVGA GTX 680 OC on the PCIe 2A slot. I was interested in purchasing a second one of these video cards to do SLi but I have been researching online and I checked the manual and can't seem to find an answer for the following question.

Can I do an SLi using slot 2a and slot 3? According to the manual and other websites i know you can set it up on Slot 1 and slot 2B to get native 8x support.

Would I be able to do Slot 2A and Slot 3? Would there be any performance hiccups?? Any comments and/or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advanced.

slot 1 and the one you have now.
there are those who have put nonconduction tape ( electric tape ) where the cooler is so it dont short out enny thing ( just to be on the safe side ).
if you understand my english 😛
and the cards have to be the same, if its 2Gig get a 2 gig, is it 4 gig get a 4gig, is it OC get the OC one.

Thanks for the response. Hmm I can try the tape solution I guess. They are both 4GB exact model and everything 🙂
So no chance whatsoever me getting away with 2 and 3?
And second question if I do Slot 1 and Slot 2A will it do it natively? Or go native using 2B?

Use the proscribed slots mate, the tape method works a treat, Arne post that picture mate it tells the story better than any text can.

Honestly OP it looks good too. Safe and works, what more can you ask for.

Alright. Just ordered kapton tape from amazon. Should be here on Wednesday. Also ordered the back cover for the video card to be safer.
Can you hit me up with a link of a picture of the setup?
Thanks for all your feedback

Went ahead and covered the clips. Did notice video card is not straight. Is that ok? Its like the clips are pushing half of the board downwards. almost invading Slot 2A.

As long as you have completely insulated the clips then it is all good. The card will not be perfectly straight as the weight of it will cause one end to sag more than the end that is screwed into the bracket.
