Hi all, im new to the board,

Ive built several of these and im stumbled on whats happening.
2 days ago i built the following rig:

3570k with a mega helms
32gb of corsair vengeance lp 1600mhz 10 10 10 27 1.5v
maximus extreme v
gtx 560ti
psu corsair ax850

i overclocked it to 4.5 @ 1.25 with llc on auto and internal ppl overvoltage enabled, y left the rest alone and set xmp to keep the memory stock. ran prime 95 for hours, stable with temps only into the 60 degrees, played bf3 yesterday all night long.

So, 3 hrs ago i went and installed an extra fan i had on the outside on top of the case with a couple of screws (checked none of them were touching anything). So i tried to start it and boom code 20 and no video... any ideas what could it be?

thanx

Ok fixed it!!! i used the flashback usb port and updated the bios, now everything's fine, i guess my previous bios was some how corrupted or my memory wasn't supported, back to overclocking 😄

And have you changed any settings in BIOS or is this event code coming about from a fully stock system?

Yup, this time around i used it without overclocking.. I got it to post again after a cmos reset and a day sitting... I'm starting to think the more i read similar cases that it could be the following i read from you on the rampage forums :

"Hello my friend you are using Vengeance ram. This forum has has 1000's no exaggeration of issues with Vengeance and this platform.

If you can change your ram you will not have issues I am sure. "

It could be ram incompatibility, do you know of a recommend and surely to be compatible ram brand and speed i could try to before buying another board? I bought this one at 260 open box with no warranty, so i would like to try that before i get a formula board..

thanx

OK Resolved. I want to share my experience, and if you are having a ram code or a no video issue this might and probably be useful:

I revived this thread only to share my "research".

I gave up and bought an p8z77 pro, and the issue went away.
2 weeks ago, my father had his ROG laptop stolen, so he asked me to build him a desktop and this is what I ordered for him :

i5 3570k
Thermalright Silver Arrow SB-E Extreme
16gb gskill ripjaws 2400
maximus v formula
gtx titan supercocked
etc..
When everything arrived and started building it i noticed they sent us the wrong board, got one for amd processors.
Instead of sending it back, I went and tried the dreaded maximus v extreme with the gskill ram, and perfect no more code 20. Just for laughs I tried my corsair vengeance and the code 20 came back... So it definitively was a ram incompatibility issue.

I read a lot of complaints of rog boards with ram codes using corsair vengeance, and also read that this ram is better suited for amd applications, so at least in my case and probably in others my rog board is not compatible with this ram, even with the latest bios.

I aslo came across another issue which didnt turn into such a nightmare. Since the silver arrow when mounted vertically takes the space of the native 1st pcie slot, i installed my card on the 2nd slot. The motherboard started detecting the gpui as the main card even if the maximus v extreme doest have a vga port and had no video with no error code. It just booted into windows with a black screen. This was a 50/50 thing. So i ended up rotating the silver arrow horizontally, removed one of the removable ram fins and installed the titan in the native pcie slot. Issue solved...

Well done mate and I am pleased you are sorted. Those V sticks of ram have been an issue for many folks in the past and I do hope it was just one or two batches.

And did you start reading this thread from page one, and did you try each and every one of those suggestions? If yes then please do start your own thread.
