Maximus V Extreme Post issue with 4 sticks of ram

Heya,

Fresh build, just found the Maximus V Extreme on clearance at a Microcenter. Fits the red/black theme of this build perfectly. It replaced a working Asus z68 deluxe/gen 3

Anyway I moved the board in and my other parts over. I seem to be having an issue where it will not post with 4 sticks of ram in the board. coincidentally the VERY first boot ( i had 4 sticks in) it went into bios, the only thing i changed was my boot order and saved. after that it would just do a cold boot loop (similar to failed overclock, starts booting stays on longer than a short, then powers down and starts again over and over) it runs through the qcodes too fast to catch..

now, if i use 2 sticks or ram the board is rock solid, boots, overclocks etc just fine.

yes, i can use those 2 sticks in either pair of slots, i can also use any 2 sticks of ram i have available. will boot and run with any 2 sticks i have here (i have several here, ballistix tracer 1866, ballistix sport 1600, hyper x 1600, g.skill sniper 2133) but no combo will run 4 at a time without the cold loop.

the go button didn't help (i pressed and held it then used the power button), cmos clear didn't help either (used button on rear and removed battery)

not sure what else to try. will buy an exact partner to one of these sets, but not sure that will solve it.

any help would be awesome! I'm no stranger to Asus boards, but I haven't had an ROG since the 780i so it's been a while.
thanks 😄

Hello Manaknight welcome to the ROG forum. Are those 4 sticks one kit or 2 indentical kits combined? If it is one kit go into the bios on the extreme tweaker tab and try raising the VCCSA voltage to 1.15v - 1.20v and see if that gets you to boot. The VCCSA voltage is for the integrated memory controller on your cpu.

The reason I ask if it is a single kit or 2 kits combined is you always want to get a single kit of the capacity you want. It's never a good idea to pair 2 identical kits and run them together.

Follow the guide in my sig. Memtest86+ this will assist you to find out if it is memory sticks or kits - or the motherboard memory slot that is the issue.

Use the newer USB memtest86+ from the download page think it is now 5.1
