Maximus IV Formula Asmedia USB 3.0 ports not working; two SATA ports possibly too.

I'm trying to troubleshoot my Maximus VI Formula motherboard: the four USB 3.0 ports which I believe are on the Asmedia controller do not appear to be registering anything plugged into them. The lights come on on my USB stick (also tried kb and mouse), but nothing appears in Windows. In the device manager there is a SM BUS unknown device, which I suspect is the one, but Windows cannot install a driver for it, and there are none available on the ASUS website.

Possibly connected to this, two of the SATA ports, E3 and E4, cannot be booted from (they show an error message relating to compatibility with my boot drive), and any optical drive plugged into them will not show up in Windows. Are these also on the (a) Asmedia controller? Ports E1 and E2 seem to work fine.

Do I have a broken Asmedia controller on my motherboard? Any help appreciated.

Hi Dangerous_Dave

The SM Bus unkown device is saying the chipset driver isn't installed.

Try reinstalling the chipset driver, you can get it at the ASUS Support Center. There is an asmedia sata driver and asmedia usb driver listed as well.

Select your operating system then click EXPAND ALL.
