Maximus IV Extreme-Z68 BIOS 3202 & Revodrive Hybrid 1000GB PCI-E

Hi,

I have Maximus Extreme-Z and 2 RAID configurations. 1st one 2 x OCZ Vertex3 RAID0 for Windows 7 system boot disk and then 2 x 500GB normal SATA disks RAID0 for data.

I wanted to add or replace old 500GB data disks with faster Revodrive disk but when I install Revodrive in the lowest PCI-E slot which is 4X I suppose system will POST and find Revodrive without any problem but my OS doesn't start anymore? What ever boot settings I setup in BIOS system want's to start from Revodrive and not from my Vertex RAID anymore?

Immediatley when I remove Revodrive system works again like before.

I don't want to use Revodrive Hybrid for boot but for data disk.

Anybody has experience on that?

Hello and welcome.

I know that there have been problems in the past with the Revo drive and what you are trying to do. I would strongly suggest that you head on over to the OCZ forum and see if there is a fix or a work around. I do not have any Revo Drives to test or try and problem solve for you, sorry mate.

Boot tab in bios,select "Hard drive BBS Priorities",remove Revodrive from list by Disabling it,now drive will not be selected as bootable.

Thanks for the comments so far. Like I said I have checked all the settings in BIOS. Both boot order and HD Priorities are correct. I even updated latest MB BIOS yesterday. I have also raised ticket to OCZ support. No sensible comments so far. First comment was that Revodrive is not supported as data disk LOL. Now story continues anyway with them after I referred section from user manual : ) Wonderfull quality of the support staff :eek:

This starts to be ASUS issue now. I think Revodrive has nothing to do with it if I set boot order in BIOS and motherboard can't follow that. Everything is set correctly in BIOS and also everything is visible there and also found in the POST. Is see every device report in POST correctly. I think I have to raise official RMA for this to ASUS?

I dont understand what is happening,if you followed the procedure i mentioned above,in "Hard Drive BBS Priorities",click on the revodrive and select "Disable",then the drive cannot be bootable,and therefore windows will not look for it when booting.

Sorry for the delay in answering. There was some hassle in the forum SSO logon during the weekend.

BIOS can see in BBS settings 2 different Revo parts-> cache (I suppose SSD part) and Toshiba (I suppose HD itself).

I have disabled both but doesn't make any difference. Also if I try boot override in BIOS to start my RAID0 system disks it doesn't work. It looks BIOS & MB just doesn't know how to boot annything else than Revo when it's connected 😞

No unsensible comments about the drive's use that I see. If the drive is going to be used as designed, caching enabled, it can only be used as a boot drive with Win7 and formatted as MBR. Dataplex software currently does not support caching non-boot drives.

I don't know what wrong with this people here. What unsensible comments? What do you know what OCZ support has answered to me? Nothing. Or actually as much as you know of designed use of Revodrive. What that cache is to do with this issue if disk is forced to boot everytime with Maximus IV regardless of BISO settings? You can't even disable or enable that SSD part of Revodrive becuase it's built in the HW. Otherwise could just use plaind HD instead of this kind of Hybrid solution.

Have you seen Revodrive user manual before start explaining here designed use? Read what's written there about using Revodrive as data disk.

Also what Dataplex has to do with the Revodrive booting? Dataplex is software loaded with Windows but if BIOS even doesn't find correct disks how some software can affect anything.
