Maximus IV Extreme-Z USB 3.0 ports dying

So... every so often, my USB 3.0 ports will completely stop working on me. I've run down to the last 2 or so on the back and 4 of them aren't working. I'm not sure how to fix this or alleviate the problem, but any information would be helpful.

If any more information is required, just ask.

Mine would do weird stuff like that. All I did was uninstall the drivers for it and then reinstall them. It fixed it for me that way. Hopefully yours is a easy fix like that.

Not a big fan of the USB3 as some will know. But often it is as simple as a reinstall of drivers, or a clear CMOS. If you go the cmos route please do save your bios settings first.
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

As above, uninstall/re-install drivers, clear cmos is your best bet - have the same board and the same problem, I had bigger issues a while ago, it seems to come and go, some days 2-4 ports wont work, then few days later they'll all work again, sorry I cant be more helpfull but somedays re-installing will work, other times it wont hope it works out 🙂

And check your mohterboard bios already upgrade to latest version?

Same issue on Maximus V Extreme. Mine haven't shut down completely but I must repeatedly disconnect the cable and then reattach. However it is affecting my USB 2 ports as well.

I will try the driver reinstall as suggested.

Hi,

I'm having the same problem. Every time my USB stops working I have to clear the CMOS. Seems to happen more with my mouse. However, sometimes other ports stop working as well. This happen what seems to be a couple time a week. Wondering if I'm have static electricity issues. so I discharge my body before I touch my mouse. Not sure if its helping. Too soon to know. I', just afraid that clearing the CMOS so many time might be damaging my rig. Might start looking for a new MoBo.

I've been having the same issue, Ive actually already RMA'd my motherboard once already. Something I have noticed is that I use a USB network adapter and EVERY time I make even the smallest overclocking tweaks, the network adapter starts to act
up, it still works, but it gets finicky. by resetting the cmos, unplugging-and replugging the network adapter, I can get it working again, the more intense the OC, the worse the adapter reacts.

So up until now, I just thought the network adapter really disliked the USB bus being overclocked, but with the ports going out and being corrected with a CMOS reset, im wondering if its the board's USB ports that cant take the OC very well. resetting the CMOS obviously erases any and all overclocking. This is just another theory I'm testing more and more, but I'd be really
disappointed, this board was made to be overclocked, would suck if the USB boards prevented it completely.
