Just upgraded from a maximus forumla to a M4E-Z using the same $8 walmart microphone which worked fine on the old board but even at 100% volume and +30dB boost i barely get a peep out of the mic if i'm further away than 6 inches. I've tried enabling/disabling all of the effects and immediate mode to no effect. It seems the mic level is retarded on the m4e-z.

so... WTF is with the realtek drivers on the M4E

Are you connected to the front or rear jack? Either way, have you tried the other jack?
A bus station is where a bus stops. A train station is where a train stops. On my desk, I have a work station…

Rear connector but I have tried both, no effect, my front panel had the standard? connector and AC97, i haven't tried the AC97 connector but I doubt it would help if the rear one doesn't perform well either.
