MAXIMUS IV EXTREME P67 USB 3.0 Ports Not Working

Retired
Not applicable
Hi Guys,

I've just recently (2 days ago) built my new machine using the mobo mentioned in the title and have just realised that 4 of the 3.0 slots do not function. the 4 nearest to the PS/2 connections.

I have tried updating the bios, chipset and have reinstalled Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit) but it still persists.

I have a Haf X with 4 ports on the front that work fine so could that be why? my friend tells me that it shouldn't affect the mobo USB slots so i'm a bit worried.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

James

Hello community,

first of all, I am bumping this post.

1: Do we have any updates from Asus? I too suffer from the same issue. I've updated firmware and drivers and the problem seems to have disappeared. Only tested for a day though. I am curious to see if it is going to appear later.

2: Are all M4Es and M4EZs affected? or just a few of them do you think?

3: Really frustrating to buy a 300£ mobo and have such a basic problem....

http://www.ajperysian.com/2011/12/10/asus-maximus-iv-extreme-z-usb-3-0-driver-issues-rear-usb-not-wo...

I have bios 1040

//
1. Attach your keyboard mouse to the USB ports on the face of the board (i.e. the place where you plug in your case’s front usb ports, attach your stuff there. Also you can use the extension that comes with the board).
2. Uninstall your 3.0 USB software. Do this by going into device manager, scrolling to the bottom and expanding the tree labeled Universal Serial Bus controllers. right click and disable then uninstall each driver labeled USB 3.0
3. Shutdown
4. Unplug everything from rear panel USB, have nothing attached to the rear panel USB ports.
5. Press and hold the CMOS button on the rear panel for 10 seconds to reset the BIOS (your computer should be off)
6. Power on the computer with a fresh BIOS (you can go into the BIOS to save the fresh one if you want)
7. Start up everything (no USB on rear panel yet)
8. Install the software FROM THE ASUS SITE
9. After installation you can now plug things into the rear panel
10. Problem fixed!

Thanks Grymmie always good to have people remind us where the fix for issues can be found. I will be using the best of the threads to put together a FAQ of problem solving at some time or other and will include the stuff from the link you posted.

Again thanks and cheers mate.
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

Also had probs with my usb3.0 ports frome my case (bitfenix), while connecting with my mobo (corshair Formula IV extreme). But when searching on google, i found some interesting pics, to get the case ports working, after attaching the usb cable from the case on the usb 3.0 on the mobo...So i can use the ports now & everythings working, but not correctly, beceause when i want to shut down, the case won't shut down normaly & he keeps giving me the led lighting:confused: Sow after reinstalling the drivers (directly asus site!!) & search further, there isn't any explanation for this! So i guess, it's still all to new & not standard tu use yet! Also i don't use the prots fore usb "3.0", but exspecialy for having more usb ports! The 3.0 devices are expensive at the point, seeing it as a gadget now... Will see in the future to get my some 3.0 stick, to enjoy the difference:cool:

already tryed that new firmware but not working, will prob send my back next week this time i blame asus!

And how can we update their firmware?

Apparently that would solve the fading USB ports problems

I really think this is our problem with UBS 3.0 issues.
Updating the firmware of the 2 devices NEC μPD720200 possibly eliminate all the problems about USB 3.0.
Now, as I have been reading these firmware updates only work when you have aonly one μPD720200, in our case we have 2 and we can not disable them individually.
Please, we need more light on the subject since (at least to my knowledge) ASUS has not commented on this serious problem. I have tried to find other ways to update the firmware but none has a solution.
Maybe we should get in touch with ASUS to study this problem and give a feasible solution.
* Sorry for my English.
Best Regards.

Found out from RD this morning: It's a known issue with the NEC USB 3.0 that if your recipient device uses JMicron generally have poor compatibility, but it also largely depends on the design of the recipient device too (i.e. not everyone is made equally).

They also ask to check the cables (I've had a faulty cable USB3 just last week!) and obviously where possible the latest drivers too.

FORMAL REQUEST TO ASUS:

Is there anyway to include a firmware update for those little uPD720200 (which are giving us so many problems) in the next BIOS firmware upgrade???

OR

Can they release som kind of hotfix that allows us to update the firmware in both our uPD720200s?

They need to do somethnig. Otherwise I think I will get an RMA two day before the warranty expires. Thats what ASUS deserves if they continue ignoring this problem.
