Maximus Hero VIII won't boot and shows no codes

I have been running an ASUS Maximus Hero VII since 2015 with no issues.  I have not made any changes to components in over 2 years and use the machine daily.  I powered it down last night and this morning it refuses to wake up.  Here are answers to the common troubleshooting questions:

  • The lights on the start/reset buttons are on.  The lights on the chipset are on.
  • The Q display is dark.
  • All fans are off.
  • The inside of the case is clean.
  • The cables are all seated fine.  As I said, no changes to anything.
  • The PSU is a EVGA 850.  I performed the paper clip test and it is working fine.  The lights being on at least part of the mobo also indicate that the PSU is working.  (I don't have another PSU handy to confirm but lights on makes me think that this can't really be the issue.)

Has this mobo simply given up the ghost?  I wasn't getting any errors or signs of failure prior to this.  I can't identify any other possible point of failure.

Welcome any feedback or suggestions.
