[Maximus Hero VII] Connecting Optical Out produces 'popping' during tracks

Hi everyone,

Just purchased some new speakers (Logitech 625's) and i immediately decided to take advantage of the optical out connection from the onboard sound card on my Maximus Hero VII, at first their were no issues but i started to notice when i was skipping tracks that their was a loud 'popping' sound nearly every time i skipped a track, playback itself seemed fine though. I instead connected the speakers through the 3.5mm aux connector and saw no such issues when skipping tracks, problem is that i wanted to use the aux port on the speakers to connect to my second monitor so i could have sound from my other devices connected to the monitor coming through the speakers.

The drivers are the latest from mobo support page, tried every combination of settings in the windows audio settings with no such luck, the cable was the one supplied with the speakers too.

Anyone have any ideas why it would do this? I thought about buying a new soundcard in the hope that the port on the onboard card was dodgy but don't want to purchase that if it's going to do the same.

Any help is appreciated.

win10 or w7? On win7 the only fix i know: delete Realtek HD Audio Manager to switch to default m$ drivers.
