Maximus Hero stopped booting

Hey guys,

I built my own PC 14 months ago - no problems at all until yesterday it just stopped booting. No error message on LED's, when you hit power button LED's flash and fans spin for half a second then nothing.

I haven't moved the PC, haven't updated BIOS, nothing changed to my knowledge.

It stopped booting but after a few days of randomly hitting the power button before work it actually booted one morning and worked completely fine until I powered it off. Now it won't boot again.

The SupremeFX fancy red light is no longer glowing, just the Start and Reset buttons. Does this scream anything obvious?

I'm updating BIOS atm through the USB flashback method, haven't removed the CMOS yet but that will be my next step. Following that I will probably have to try breadboarding though I resent having to do that considering nothing changed and it's a hassle seating the MoBo on my case.

Any other recommendations guys?

Thanks for the help

Conor.

Updated BIOS, removed CMOS.

Looks like I'm breadboarding.

Memory or PSU are the first things that come to mind.
Try booting with only one stick of memory and try each slot individually.
Do you have a spare PSU available to you?

If it's not memory or PSU related, then you might have a DOA board.

Good luck....

Exact same thing happened to me just a week ago. the build is just over a yr old. Specs as follows
Hero vi mobo
I7 4770k @4.5ghz
16gb 2133 ram
H100i
Asus direct cu II 780
Corsai ax 860
Win 8.1
Samsung ssd 840
Western digital 1 tb

Comp was running like a champ , very clean build. Then last week it just restarted and is doing the exact same thing you described. Fans spin for a split second however two don't move at all, then it immediately shuts off. No signal to monitor. Nada. Like a car that will crank but won't start. I bread boarded and same thing. Tested out the psu using the paper clip test and the psu is fine. I have it packed up and ready for rma, but just wondering if there was anything I can do as a last ditch effort to save the board. The board will just not boot. Didn't touch the cmos or bios either. I think the board just died me.

update - seems to be the power supply for me as I tested with another and it booted fine - have got an RMA approved by EVGA.

Glad to hear you figured out the problem. Just curious if you did the psu paperclip test.
