Maximum VI Formula | No boot/Post

Latin
Level 7
Good morning,

I have the Formula VI motherboard that has been running fine for the past 14 months till this morning when I woke up to the PC in a no power condition.

I can press the power button on the motherboard and still no start up. The Power and Reset button lights on the motherboard blink every 4 seconds. I tried the paperclip method to test out the PSU and it started right up. I removed the RAM and tried one stick in multiple slots; no dice. I also removed the video card to no avail.

Any ideas fellow gurus?

//edit:// There are also no codes popping up on the mini screen.

Hello Latin and welcome

if you are not getting a code on the motherboard either the psu or the motherboard is faulty. I'm not sure how well I trust the paper clip test on your psu.

I can agree with you on not trusting the PSU with the paperclip.

I believe at home I have a spare known working PSU stored.
When I get home I will attempt to use it and let you know what happens.

All right

Let's hope you get it working with another psu, if not you'll know the motherboard is bad.

I tested the motherboard with a spare Corsair 600gs with a 4pin epsv12 connector and not the 8pin (previous PSU had both 4 and 8 pin connected)

With this PSU all of the light in the motherboard light up including the republic of gamers logo that's dead center.

When I hit power it attempts to start up the computer but it just stops. I am curious if both of those are required for this motherboard?

//note: I do have a 4.2ghz oc//

Edit: Quick image from the VI's instruction manual.

You should have the 8 pin connected, the 4 pin is only needed for extreme overclocking.

The Corsair GS600 has 1 x 8 Pin EPS/ATX12V CPU.
Not sure why you mentioned that it only has a 4-pin CPU connector.
To boot and perform properly, the Formula VI only requires an 8-pin connection.
The extra 4-pin is recommended for added stability for extreme overclocking.

You are absolutely right. I plugged in the 8 pin connector and 'more' things happen on the motherboard as opposed to my Rosewill Capstone 750-M. This is whats bringing me to question both 4 pin and 8 pins connectivity being mandatory.

Only the 8 pin is mandatory.

Did you get it to boot or at least show a code with the 8 pin connected ?

Just the power and reset lights are solid as well as the republic of gamers light is 'breathing'.

Nothing on the little screen | Only when it attempts the half second boot-up.
