:(:( The Bad Luck Build...

So I bought a whole new setup... bar the HD5850... this is the only old component in my build...
all was successful when I first installed... worked reallly well for the first 2 months.... then he started crashing all the time...
a wierd crash too... sounds like the audio is going thru a grinder, or like a casette being chewed up, then the audio will start to loop what ever sound its playing, the screen will lock up and eventually its just frozen... I've left it making these horrible noises a few times, and only once after maybe 5 minutes, it came back...

So after reading some of these forums, It was suggested to update the bios, mine was not quite the latest, so I used the Asuss AI suite to automatically update... it all installed fine, click yes to restart... ... ... nothing, not a bios beep, nothing...
ended up sending the board back, almost a month later, got a 'new one' apparantly...

Re build... feeling good... push the power button... ... .... same thing, nothing....
after more forum reading... went out and bout a $30 sempron... installed that... started first time... into windows, download latest bios 1102... usb flashed it from asus bios app... reinstalled the FX6100... All good... ... ... for about a week....

Back to my audio chewing crash.... now this happens any old time randomly, no BSODs just audio chewing lockup...
util after a few more days, BSODs with the message Memorey_Management... so off to memtest86 we go....
after trial and error with my 4 sticks of ram... one of them errors out everytime.... removed it... all is running really nice... for alittle while...

start getting an error on startup with the intel lan thingo... as well as an ! next to it in device manager... so i figure Im not evern using onboard lan, I have a wireless card... so I disabled the Lan in the bios... PC is now running like a dream.... no crashes at all for a week... I've been playing Need For Speed - The Run.... Full Spec, Hard core all week, watching 1080p movies, listening to music, everything, without a single crash... don't know how turning of the lan would affect it, but it seemed to fix it...
... until....

yesterday.... no start... CPU LED, Ram LED and VGA LEd all flashing on start up... if it even got that far.... maybe twice out of pusing the power button 30 times and getting nothing but GPU and CPU fans it made it to bios... upon making it to bios the first time... I noticed all the settings were back to default, the lan was back on and my boot order had changed, and it wasn't even seeing 2 of my 3 hard drives... Then.... 6, yes 6 loud medium beeps from the pc speaker and full lock up in the bios....
tried restarting... nothing for another 30 on/offs.... then it made it to bios again, same 6 beeps but no crash this time, turned off the lan, re ordered my boot sequence and now I'm in windows typing this message....

Very frustraing... I've sent a similar message to this, back to my PC shop, and will wait to see what they say on monday...
Could my CHVF be faulty again? 😞 Has anyone else had big stupid missions like this to get a stable CHVF/AMD setup?
Its been since November and maybe one month of the time, I've had a stable box.... getting pretty salty about it...

All drivers/windows are right up to date... chipset, bios, everything... I'm scared to restart as it might take me another 2 hours to get it to turn on again....

Help!??!?

Welcome ChewsOne.. for being 'pretty salty' you were pretty respectful about it and we thank you ..

have you tested all the other hardware .. psu? ram..ect?
have you read the stickys in the crosshair section on setup...raja ect.?

it has been my experience that the freakyness u describe ... is first psu ...
second suspect ..ram...
i would start over on the bios .. with the jumper..found in sticky and manual..
or consider an updated asus bios..
but before id jump to rma i would be sure of the other hardware.best of luck.c.

Thanks man.... yeah, I'm still going through all the hardwares to see who's doing what, so yeah after memtest, one chip was bad, found that out last week, have been running on 12 gigs for a week... am sending it back this week... I just wanna know what else is going on incase I have to send back other components...

PSU has been suspect number one after a lot of the reading I'd been doing... I used to have and still do have, a Corsair HX650 which has been stable as... but just to be sure last week I bought the Silverstone Strider Gold 1200w... with only one GPU this should be plenty to run all I have going....

Its still running now... no crash for 4 hours, bit scared to restart or turn it off though... Any ideas what the 6 beeps are? theres nothing about 6 beeps in the manual?? just the longs and shorts... these beeps are twice maybe 3 times louder than the normal 'one beep' when all is fine... and its during looking through the bios settings, then the mouse slows right down and gets steppy and then it all locks up.... had that 4 times now....? and then sometimes like now, it starts again fine... but all my bios settings are back to default....

I've never overclocked anything, I actually wouldnt know how or why I would, when this pc is running fine, it really is running sweet.... it all runs on default settings, the only thing ive changed in bios is turning off the Intel Lan, if I don't it wont let me start windows without redirecting me to bios with an error... and I've changed the boot order, everything else is stock....

Salty 😉 yeah, thats just me running out of patience, with my apparent dream machine, it's just been a lot of time and money, learning a lot of how to trouble shoot stuff, but yeah, I just wish it would work well constantly and not when ever it feels like it... CPU temp rarely goes over 33 celcius and gpu only gets up in the 50's in full spec gaming, to which I hear/read a pretty normal.... the Silverstone has 3x 180mm fans on the bottom pushing air through, and I have the stock CPU cooler on the chip, stays pretty cool...

When I actually got into windows yesterday, AI suite errors were going off all over the show, with the main message saying 'does not work with this model' any idea what would cause it do that?

I've undone all the cpu bits n pieces, given that a good visual inspection, all looks pristine, pins look perfect, I guess next is some hard CPU tests.... I've memtested the remaining ram sticks with no errors, so I'm confident the 12 gigs I have are sweet...

Oh and yeah, the battery, my first thought of the settings not saving, was flat battery? I will try that too... are they just a standard battery of that size that you can buy anywhere? or are they a specific battery power and size.... I really am still a noob at tech stuff.... I just thought building one can't be that hard? the stuff only fits where it fits right?

With the bios reverting back to original settings, I say besides the recommendations of chrsplmr you may want to replace the MB battery.

Hey nice to see, looking forward to hearing what you have found as the cause.

Cheers
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

I wish I could test further, hasn't started for 2days now, with my fx6100, and the sempron I had to buy to start it in the first place... my silverstone 1200w and corsair 650w 1-3 ram sticks in all different slots, changed BIOS battery, different power sockets, although all the lights and fans go every time... old radeon 2400 gfx card, 2different monitors... the list goes on... i reckon I'm taking it to bits and sending it back, I didn't spend all this money to play troubleshooter... had enough... 😞

When i got my CHV it was pain in the ass to be honest and i was very frustrated. I have been building gaming rigs since voodoo rush 4m quake and doom clan arena im sure some of you remember these lol and what got me was those damn blue usb ports that looked like sweet spot to put my keyboard and mouse in .....turns out they were cause of all my problems ....... my point i guess is im super happy with the MB now and im glad spent the time to figure out what my problem was good luck i hope you get it figured out
