majoy boot issue with rampage iv extreme and vga hotwire

hi everyone,

I am at my whitts end nearly chucked the pc out the window haha.

I did the mods the my 680 dcII top and activated the hotwire and have it connected to the mobo.

I am getting intermittant boots, most of the time it is taking me on averge 15-20 power on/resets/pull plug from wall etc.. to get booted into windows. I can run a benchmark fine and my results seem normal acording to other sources.

I notice that when it boots and i get vga out there is a little orange led beside the hotwire pins on the mobo.

the problem I am having is that unless that orange light is on I cannot get any vga out from the 680.

the times i can get it too boot if i change antthing in bios or do a restart or shutdown from windows the same thing happens again it takes me a serious amount of tries to get it too boot with the orange led on the hotwire pins.

I dont know what the fook is going on here I have tried everything literally. if i try a different gpu it boots instantly.

any one any ideas why the orange led is not coming on on the hotwire pins?

i guess this needs to come online so the hotwireing funtion is working, and without it the card wont boot..

I updated to the latest 1404 bios and still the same 😞

I dont understand what they fook is going on here lol, once im in windows everything is normal,

I believe the orange light is the indicator that you have a card in that slot, and the dip switches next to the lights are used to turn the slot on and off.
I don't think you need the hotwire connected for the card to work, I believe only to overvolt it. Am I wrong? I thought that removing the r100 resistor allows you to overvolt but card would work either way? I have not read about anyone not using the hotwire after removal of the resistor though. Could someone please explain the relation to the r100 resistor and the hotwire? Thanks

unless the card will only work with the ockey activated?

be great if someone who has done this mod can step in try help, I know not that many take the plung to hotwire but I took the chance as thats what it is designed to do..

but if this is what happens i would not recommend doing this mod,

I might have chucked 620e down the swanny 😞

jassssssssssssysysys hahahaha I NAILED IT.

i changed it from GEN 3 back to GEN 2, 5 restarts in a row successfully woohooo..

but.. I thought the 680 is a pci 3.0 card?

that seems to have been what was causing my card to no vga out...

ill research more

ahh i see,

maybe I have damaged the card then ? although its working corrcet when i manage to get into windows.. fooking strange this my head is melting very fast lol, 26 hours trying to trouble shoot this 😞

when the board wont boot up i am getting different errors from 34 to 94 etc if I leave it sitting for 25 mins it goes to AA... no vga tho

RowenC there have been issues with the card and Gen3, the green team made some kind of public statement and posted a fix of sorts a while ago. It is on their web site still I think.

Keep us posted of your results please. Should be in the VGA section but there's very few posts there.

update guys,

its continuing to boot normal now, tested with some bios edits too and shes restarting perfect.

GEN3 is what was defo causing the instability.

for the moment ill leave it on GEN2 mode and try find out why gen3 is not working with the 680.

the only thing I can think of that it might be my ram? I am using vengence 1600 and I have heard people having issues with it,

but I cant see how this would effect GEN3 when I have had no issues on GEN 2 with this ram. maybe someone could enlighten me?

@ HiVIZ.

that only works in the driver level once windows is booted 🙂

ill keep you updated on any progress I have,

if anyone else reading this is using a dcII 680 and a rampage iv extreme is GEN3 mode allowing you to boot ?

this issue I think is motherboard related and not the gpu itself.

on a happy note the card is boosting to 1252mhz out of the box on water. cant wait to push this sucker with the hotwire..
