M6E - PLX chip temps

Hi guys,

Just out of curiosity, what are the safe temps for the PLX chip?

I'm running 3 x 780 GTX in SLI in a fully custom water cooled loop with the CPU.

AI Suite 3 is by default set to trigger a warning when the PLX chip gets hotter than 60c.. This happens within a minute of gaming in my pretty well ventilated case.

Should I be worried? I've seen it aproach 70c (and even pass) at times in these warm summer days.

Welcome to the ROG forums, LeCramp.

It is normal that the PLX gets that hot. If you look at it closely, you'll see that it's a really tiny chip. Now imagine all the heat that is generated in that small area.

the thermal shutdown temp is configured to be at 105c or so and it can be running 100c for a long time without anything blowing up.

Perfect - I won't worry too much then.. Was already planning to upgrade my watercooling with some motherboard blocks 🙂

Thanks to both of you 🙂
