Graphics card - xfx-amd-radeon-7950-hd-800mhz-3gb-pci-express-3-0-hdmi-8B07

RAM- Crucial 1GB 240PIN DDR3 PC3-8500 NON ECC CL-7

PSU - Corsair Enthusiast Series TX 850W V2 High Performance '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply (CP-9020043-UK) [CP-9020043-UK]

CPU 2 - AMD Bulldozer FX-8 Eight Core 8150 Black Edition 3.60Ghz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail [FD8150FRGUBOX]

now you guys know what we are working with i can get on with the problems i'm having.

Problem 1: the main hurdle i'm up against is finding compatible RAM, i have the manual and i spent a few days finding the cheapest bit of RAM i could find that according to the QVL.
but alas it still doesnt work, i have placed it in all 4 slots and it still makes the error sound (1 long 2 short) and the DRAM LED on the motherboard flashes.

problem 2: when first powered up the computer i heard a slight popping or crackling sound and my graphics card was hot and smelt hot. due to not having anything working i cannot test if this is working. i will mention the PSU doesn't have any 8pin PCI power cables, it has 6+2 cables which have pci-e wrote on the side so i plugged those in.
but on the manual for the card it isn't clear to me wether or not i should have plugged the 6+2 ones in.

Note: the motherboard is incompatible with cpu2 so i purchased cpu 1 to update the bios.
Also if pictures are required i can upload them asap

thanks for your time

Ooops... the 6+2 pin connectors are for the graphics cards... - I would not mix those connectors between the VGA and CPU...

That PSU has a 4+4 pin connector - that's for the CPU...

If that motherboard was purchased recently you should have a bios that supports the FX. I purchased my V a month after the release and it suppored fx out of the box. Have you updated the bios and tried the FX? Are you setting the ram timings/volts? Those need to be set and not left on auto. My gskill F3-14900CL9D-8GBSR 2x4 1866mhz is supported (QVL) and can get picked up for 50 bucks on various sites

You can check which bios you have by the serial number on the board. If I remember correctly its listed near the dims. Check the fx for bent pins. This link has 2 videos about the crosshair, maybe it will help you out

1. Remove your CPU and RAM.
2. Take the CMOS battery out for 5 minutes.
3. Insert the battery back into its place.
4. Install the Sempron with its stock heatsink.
5. Insert the stick of Crucial into the DIMM_A2 slot.
6. Press the Start button to power up your motherboard.

Let us know what happens. Does the DRAM LED still blinks?
