Load 64bit RAID driver

MikeMc

I've been rummaging through the forum for a few days and have not come across a solution for creating a RAID0 using SSD for a 64bit Win7 OS install. I've made the BIOS settings to set SATA5-6 to IDE and SATA 1-4 to RAID. I've successfully installed Win7 using 32bit on the SSD drives as a RAID0, and set 2 hard drives as a RAID1. The error I get when trying to repeat this setup using 64bit is a note that the 64bit drivers are unsigned, and I can't get past that prompt. Any suggestions on how to load the 64-bit RAID drivers during a new install?

Busy doing a AMD Raid0 set up guide at the minute. Will post the links when done. 🙂

Thank you HiVizMan! Wee need a few guides for the AMD Platforms! No matter how much I think I know, I never know enough!

MikeMc: Dosnt that error box have button that says "Install anyways" or something like that?

HiVizMan: Would be nice if you go deeper with it in time like, stripe size (HDD/SSD) tests, w/wo Cache tests and so on. 😉

HiVizMan, I for one will be very thankful for what you are preparing. I am currently struggling this this very subject. One SSD drive for OS and several programs. Then two WD 500GB drives in a RAID 0 array.
I am guessing I am just missing some simple step, but after reading and rereading the manual, I still seem to be missing something. The manual could provide some more assistance with this.

Anyway, in advance, THANK-YOU!!

For some reasosn I cannot reply to your message in the forum, I get a database error. To answer your question - the Win7 message is a hard stop with no option to continue. From what I understand, Windows 7 no longer gives you an option to install unsigned drivers. Win2k3 wil let you bypass that error and install anyway.

MikeMc, you can download a new drivers from AMD.com and use them instead of your current ones. They are under SB8x0 but they are same if you look relise notes.

Irtees, You have your OS already on SSD? ...did you install the os in it while Sata mode was AHCI?
- if it was IDE-mode you need to change your OS Reg so it use AHCI before makeing change under BIOS or you will get BlueScreen when you bootup your system. Easyer way maybe to reinstall your OS when your system is under AHCI or RAID.

When your SATA controller is set to RAID all your HDD or SSD are realy running as AHCI that is before you have setup RAID array between 2 or more drivers on RAID configuration menu. Warning. You will lose all your data on those drivers when you do this!
After you have set the SATA mode to RAID Save settings and exit the BIOS. On next POST you see AMD ROM boot message that shows all "Functional" RAID arrays. Press CTRL+F on that screen to go to RAID configuration menu.
All drivers that arent selected in any "Functional" RAID array are runing at AHCI-mode.

--if you have an old RAID array you dont need to go to RAID cofiguration! It should work after you have set the SATA controller to RAID. If it dosent show on ROM boot screen with "functional" note, then one of the disc is broken, under wrong port, whit out power, made with different hardware... Anyways that would mean that if you like to get those disc workking under RAID again you have to make again RAID array between those and doing so you lose all your data on them! 😞

Well I finally was able to get it going, but it took alittle guess work. Just to refresh, I have 2 dvd burners connected to the SATA ports 5 and 6. These two ports are set to IDE in the BIOS.

My OS is loaded on a SSD drive connected to SATA port 1. Port 2 has no connection. To ports 3 and 4 I have two WD 500 GB HDD's connected. These ports are set to RAID in the BIOS.

I then went to the RAID configuration page using "CTRL +F". Here I set the two WD drives to a RAID 0 array.
I then proceeded to try and load my OS, Win 7 Ult. 64. When I got to the page that asked where I wanted to load the OS to, there were no drives to select and things came to halt. This page gives the opportunity to "Load Drivers". I figured that since I was installing a 64 bit OS that I needed to load the 64 bit RAID driver. But after loading that driver I still saw no drive to load OS to. So I tried loading the 32 bit RAID driver. Now my drives show. I proceeded to then load the 64 bit drivers. There were two. After this I loaded the OS on the SSD drive and all went well

Now I am not at all sure I did this correct, but all seems to be working.

I will be curious to read HiVizMan's guide when posted to see how far off I actually am.

I must say that the Owner's Manual should be a better source of information than it is.

Heb moederbord GA-EX58-UD5.
Ik vind op de website van Gigabyte geen "Intel SATA RAID Preinstall driver For AHCI / RAID Mode
Note: Press F6 during Windows setup to read from floppy." voor windows 7 64 bit. Voor 32 bit en de Vista versies staat die er trouwens ook niet.

I'm curious as to what strip size to use the only 2 options in the raid set up are 64 and 128. and is there a sure way to tell if its the 32 bit or 64 bit driver that windows is using. do you know if your read ahead cache is enabled?
