Am I okay to install the CPU without having to do anything special with the BIOS? I'm not really sure as I haven't been able to find a clear answer. Thank you.

i bought a formula vii with same processor, and i installed with proper checks... worked fine for me. Check the hero bios page, if they have a asterisk saying you need to update something before applying specific processors, then u might need to.

4790K is compatible with the Hero VII, just install and play, the Hero is a very good motherboard, my Hero with 4790K has been working perfectly without any issues since release date

I have that setup, keep switching between a Rampage V (5930k) and the Maximus VII Hero (4790k) setup at moment, cant make my mind up which to use. Seem to get better results in games with the Maximus 4790k setup. Think I had the 609 bios originally installed with the Maximus board, started up no problem. Only thing ive had a problem with since was that using the last couple of Bios versions stopped my comp booting with the XMP setting turned on in Bios (keep getting Overclock Failed Message on Bootup), I rolled back to Bios version 1002 which had worked fine before, not having any probs now, I can use Xmp setting again. Don't know if its my ram perhaps causing problem with latest Bios versions? I have Kingston Hyper X 8gb 2400mhz sticks in all 4 slots.

Awesome, thanks for the replies everyone. I wasn't sure if I needed to flash the bios before install. Been reading some weird stuff about the current status of BIOS firmware updates. So I'm little unsure. I'll post an update over the weekend.

There's no worry upgrading to the latest available bios version, which was 2012 last time I checked. The current issue are the disappearance of the ones after, up to 2401.

I'm running 2400Mhz G-Skill memory and an i7 4770K with no problems at all. I had some nagging issues with 2401 so I'm not regretting rolling back though.
