hey guys i have a rampage vs extreme motherboard with tons of usb3.0 and i need a few extra usb2.0.
can i buy this pci card and plug it in the motherboard?

Theoretically yes. I don't know if anyone could tell you for sure that it is compatible without trying it. It may also depend on which CPU you have, how many pcie lanes are available and which pcie slot you use.
Another popular option that does not use a pcie slot if you need internal USB 2.0 is https://www.nzxt.com/products/internal-usb-hub

thanks menthol..i'm only using 1 pci lane and that's my video card in the first slot (the one on the inside of the board lets say).
i guess the best way is buying the $8 goodie and test it out.

i checked out that hub but would have no idea where to install that 😉

is there a way to make or use a usb3.0 socket so that it becomes usb2.0? or is that hardware/motherboard related?

The USB hub connects to the motherboard with a cable similar to a case USB 2.0 connector does, suited if you need internal USB ports for Corsair Link or similar
The adapter card should be inserted into a pciex1 port if available but should work in most pcie slots, you can probably find add on cards with external and or internal ports, depending on platform don't install in a pcie slot that interferes with available pcie lanes for your Video card.
$8.00 is a small price if you find it sin't compatible
