Intel HD Graphics 4000 issue

mRLeEBoi

I am having issues with the Intel HD Graphics 4000 driver. After installing the drivers for the Intel HD Graphics I can't get a
monitor signal once I restart my computer. The OS will load but after once the log in is supposed to appear my screen goes black and tells me there's no signal. The only way that I am able to get the screen back is to go into safe mode and disable the Intel
HD Graphics 4000 driver.

Does anyone know what's going on? Thanks!

FYI: I don't have a Graphics Card yet. I am using the HDMI on my motherboard.

May I ask what monitor you are using?

You are getting an image right up until the system hands over to the OS, and then it fails. Is that correct?

Which suggests that your default res for your monitor is not compliant with the default screen res once in OS.

Are you using an adaptor on your cable?

Hi HiVIzMan,

Thanks for the reply. I actually figured out what was wrong.

After installing the Intel HD Graphics 4000 driver I had to change the Graphics Configuration in my bios to IGFX instead of leaving it on Auto. Everything works great now.

Thanks again, I've been seeing your replies and you do a great job a trying to assist members with their issues. 🙂

FYI: My monitor is a Acer S273HL and I an not using an adapter at the moment.

the intel hd4000 driver also exhibited the same behavior with my viewsonic monitor which only had a dvi input. i got around it by switching to another monitor. a dell 2410 works fine with the same hdmi to dvi cable. my samsung tv works fine as well with either hdmi to hdmi OR hdmi to DVI. How monitors work is a black box to me. They have vga and dvi inputs so that means there must be an analog to digital conversion in one circuit (vga). As I understand it DVI, it can be digital or analog depending on the cable, (after all, how do dvi to vga adapters work? they are nothing but a plug so the signal from the pc must be analog in those cases.)

DVI can be analogue or digital depending on the output. Most gfx cards today have DVI-I outputs which can output digital or analogue signals. But in some cases, e.g. the new Geforce GTX 680, you have two DVI outputs. But only one of them is DVI-I, the other one is DVI-D which have just the digital signal and isn't compatible with dvi -> vga adapters.

I see that you've fixed your problem, but I'll just add another possible solution for people with the same issue. If you get a black screen like described here, you can try the "enable vga mode" option in the Windows boot menu (same menu you use to start safe mode). This will boot Windows normally, except for setting the resolution to 640x480 which pretty much any monitor should handle properly.
