In SLI Hell - Maximus VI Extreme

Yesterday I bought two Gigabyte GTX 780s to use in SLI for my Maximus VI Extreme.... so far it has been a nightmare. I put the cards in slot 1 and b2 as stated in the motherboard and I got a 94 or a 96 Q-Code. I finally got into BIOS and reset to defaults. Now the card in B2 doesnt show up at all. I swapped the card from slot 1 to slot b2 and it also doesnt show up in b2 but the one that was in b2 before now shows up in slot 1. If I put the cards in slots 1 and 3 they show up. If I put the cards in slots 1 and a2 they show up.

I am on the Asus Maximus VI Extreme... with 0804 BIOS... Anyone have any advice or thoughts? This problem is driving me crazy.

Hello Atlantis852, I have the same issue regarding the B2 lane, makes my first VGA card crash and low GPU usage after some gaming with the newest games.

I tried all TS steps form this thread and from the other thread with the B2 slot issue, and looks like nothing helps.

I'll manage to move both slots from Gen3 to Gen2 and test and also move the second card to the slot #3.

By the way, I'm seriously thinking on move to G1 Sniper 5, GA-Z87X-OC Force or M6Formula (At the moment I'm not 100% sure if Formula have this issue with one of the PCIE slots)

I'm running on: 4770k + M6E + 780 SLI

If you're going to switch, I highly recommend the Gigabyte G1.Sniper 5. Everyone I know with the M6E has the same problems and there seems to be no air tight fix or explainable root cause. I am profoundly disappointed over what I've been through over this M6E B2 problem so far. I hope it can be fixed in BIOS but at this point I am skeptical... I almost dread building this second machine around the M6E...

It might sound funny, but for me, I just solved the problem ! Atleast as far as I can see after all tests I run.

I just update my M6E this morning to BIOS 0903 and for the moment works nice.

Already tested with BF3 and BF4, furmark performed and also 3Dmark Benchs, all FREEZES and CRASHES and low performance on 1 of the 2 GPU's like low GPU usage are GONE !

For the record, I'm running on:

4770K @4.5 Ghz + M6E + 2x 780 + 1200 PSU on Win7 SP1 64 bits

The video cards are on slot 1 and B2 running in Gen3 mode, recognized in bios as x8/x8

I really hope you also solve your problem with the new BIOS update (I had this issue for more than 1 month and also I tried almost everything)

Can anyone else confirm (or deny) if the 0903 BIOS solves the B2 slot nightmare?

Please let me know how it goes after a couple of weeks... I hope yours stays fixed and mine will be fixed by that BIOS rev when I start the next build.

I'll do.

In BF3 the GPU's are working at 96-98 %
In BF4 they don't exceed 90-92 % 😞 (I think is caused by the bad optimization of the game/driver which are quiet new)

Note: Obviously with all settings at ultra on 1440p resolution.

Does the 0903 BIOS rev solve the B2 slot nightmare for anyone else?

Playing BF4 for like 4 hours, no issues so far.

Hope it stays that way.

People flashed previous versions of BIOS on their M6E machines and had proper SLI behavior for a while only to have the problem come back some days later.

I am hoping there are more people out there who can confirm the same results you are getting on 0903.
