Jeez guys so much hate, the board will only get better with bios update so just be patient:D
I actually i really like this board so much better than the Gigabyte X79UD7 i had for two years before the black and that board had its issues to on release took about 5 bios updates for that board to be good, so just hang in there...

Funny you should say that...
I was one of the early adopters of the RIVE purchasing the second day after USA release. This forum was eerily silent for the first month, as almost everyone who purchased the first month was not having much luck OCing, and many like myself just having trouble getting stable at merely stock clocks. A BIOS update a month after the launch made the board much more stable at OC, and we began to get successful OCs after that. FYI.

Overclocking is useless to me if it is not rock stable.

What Corsair RAM are you using? if you're using Vengeance...there's the problem.

Hey heirhogan 🙂

Sorry you're having a rough time of it. If you just wanted to complain about your experience with the board that's fine...just saying that if you want some help trying to resolve the issue you have then some detailed system specs would help a lot.

I would say though that while Corsair may be a big brand in computing, they make a very wide range of products and not all of them are top of the line so blind faith in the brand is certainly not going to help...they make lemons same as everyone else from time to time.

Post up your specs...RAM, number of kits, if two of the same, or single kit....detailed symptoms....what event viewer says about the crashes...if you've tried clean OS install etc.

yes arne i have the 2133 Vengeance 2 x 4Gigs sticks and the 4930k and a clean Win 7 64 on a new WD 750
caviar black HDD and the MSI 780 lightning

Well , the reason I asked, is the sudden shutdown thing immediately makes me think of RAM. Those two sticks are a single kit right? Sometimes these kits just need a bit of tweaking and sometimes you might have a duff set. If I were you I would Memtest 86+ the RAM (see HiVizMan's sig for details on how to do that). Set defaults in BIOS and test your RAM...then Set XMP or however you normally set it up and test again...a couple of passes will do.

For voltages and tweaks...have a look at the end of the second post in this thread... http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?25510-Rampage-IV-Extreme-RAM-Guide&country=&status=

I so wonder why my Vengeance ram has no issues at least, it sure seems that way - running 32gb @ 1866 xmp profile. System is not o/c though which helps i guess although the few times i have bothered push the turbo mode @ 4.25 has been no issues.

This is normal experience for computer builders, often compatibility issues are either 'spotty' or depend on exact configuration and BIOS settings just as Arne said.
In 2010 many EVGA X58 SLI (and the other EVGA X58 models) owners experienced difficulty W/OCZ SDRAM. Eventually we all came to the consensus that EVGA X58 mobo didn't like OCZ RAM. But not all ppl had problems with this combo, and no pattern could be discerned. Like Arne said, it may depend somewhat on your "luck of the draw" with your specific CPU IMC strength; or even some other unknown factor. The point is we know that some ppl have problems W/Vengeance RAM and therefore it is a 'crap-shoot' to try to use it W/RIVxx boards. Just because someone had luck with it doesn't disprove anything.

Hmm ....The lower the frequency of the kit the lower your OC and the stronger your particular CPU's IMC the better time you will have of it and of course not all Vengeance kits are lemons....but for SB-E and X79 Vengeance is a good recipe for troubles...try combining vengeance kits and you can do your PhD in troubleshooting;)

@ OP post your full system hardware list. Indicate what your issue is, and what if any settings in BIOS you have changed. Include which bios you are using, as there are a number of bios on the web some official others not so official.

And my I just echo what someone else has said. The RIVE boards, both the Black Edition and the first one are not entry level user boards they are aimed at a very specific user, that being said they should simply work out of the box at defaults. If they are not doing so for you, and you then we can try and problem solve this for you.
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

Just curiosity on my part in all honesty, at the time of purchase I wasn't a member of the ROG forum's despite being an Asus mobo and GPU cards owner. I was a member of the main Asus site and had used the forum there to ascertain information over time in relation to my P5N32-E SLI based system.....sat at side of me still functioning well but, unable use an SSD on as far as aware for main boot device. If I had been a ROG forum member I would have not bought the memory..it wasn't a cheap purchase... and to find it to be not recommended for my system with compatibility issues surprised me immensely, especially purchasing from a good supplier like Scan UK.....why did they not query it? entire system parts purchased on same order almost.
