I succumbed!!

After buying a x79 sabertooth mobo, I had a result and convinced my uncle to swap his Rampage Extreme for my sabertooth as he wasn't going to overclock at all, so with a little bit of cash and a promise to help him with his build, he agreed. A great result for both of us, and Im very happy, the R4E looks absolutely gorgeous, I cant stop looking at it!
I haven't started my build yet as Im having to re-braid all my cables to fit in with my new colour scheme :(, but I have started my uncles build and have a question over Asus SSD caching technology.
Im setting him up with 2 x SSD in raid 0 for the OS and some apps and he has a 2TB drive for storage and the rest of his applications including games - he has a 600Gb games folder..
Can I use Asus SSD caching to speed up access to the storage drive, or is it only for using with a mechanical drive that has an OS on? Can it be used with any mecahical drive in the system?
Im hoping I can use the RAID 0 for a more responsive OS and minimise the bottleneck of mechanical storage by using your SSD caching technology with the storage drive?

Wanna get this build done so i can start on mine as that board is calling me!

Thanks

then lock the door.... get ur ROG on... cant wait.. if you have this love for it now.....
wait til ya flip the juice to her............ have great luck in both builds...

we are drooling for the results...............

Does anyone have an answer on the original question over SSD caching a drive??

Since you have the two SSD running your OS there is no need to bother if I am honest. The speed you will be getting with your cache being located on the SSD as it is will be blinding. Just enjoy
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

It is not for the OS, I was looking to install a 3rd 60GB SSD to use as a cache for my 2TB mechanical storage drive.
The confusion was over whether I can use a SSD to cache a drive that doesn't have the OS installed on it as all the videos I have seen have this technology used to cache the drive where the OS is installed?

Yes!!! Though a SSD designed for the purpose of caching is way better!! Purely because solid-state static RAM doesn't have a very long life expectancy especially when data is being written to it over and over again. However, you're in luck!! OCZ has recently introduced a new series of SSD's purposely designed to be used as a super fast data-cache:

I will have a look at that, though I have given up on the idea now as the Asus caching technology doesn't work how I was thinking it would. I wanted to set up my 60Gb SSD to be used as dedicated cache for one drive only, with windows using my existing RAID array as its own caching area.

cheers for the link though

From my understanding the OCZ synapse drive works differently from a regular SSD, as in, the user isn't allowed to drop content onto the drive nor does appear on the desktop like a usual storage medium instead it's only made visible to the OS and connected hard-drives... It's primary objective is to speed up frequently access applications.
