How do I update my BIOS in order to use IVY-E

Hi there,
heres the thing: I was using E5-2620 ES, this CPU is only supported by early version BIOS (R4E),
so my BIOS version has been on .ROM (before 1404)

Yesterday I upgraded my CPU to 4930K, and I know I have to update the bios to the latest to use it,
but the thing is I have to use the ASUS converter to convert .ROM BIOS to .CAP BIOS,
right now my BIOS is still 1404 and I can't even boot up, so the only way to update it is using Flashback,
so I have to flashback the converter first and the bios will be updated to 2103 or something,
with 2103 BIOS I still can't boot up, and the conversion requires booting up to finish the conversion
which means I can't update my BIOS to the latest version by just using the Flashback.

Anyone has any thought on how am I gonna solve this problem?
Thank you.

Easy, put your Xeon back in, do the conversion, rip it out, put in the 4930K. Then use the flashback method to go from 2103 to the latest 🙂

Thx for reply, and yes I realized I can just switch my old U back in but the thing is I really don't wanna change CPU if possible, I have a watercooling installed and it's taking sooo much to change a CPU.

So I wonder if theres a way without changing the CPU?

You can try a version of the .CAP converter I cooked up with IB-E CPU support.
No guarantees it will work for you, but here it is: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/6400726/ROG/Rampage-IV-Extreme-CAP-Converter-IB-E.rom

Will need to be flashed with BIOS flashback.
MB: ASUS Rampage IV Black Edition
CPU: Intel Xeon E5-2697 v2 (Cooled by Corsair H100i w/ Noctua NF-F12 fans)
RAM: 64GB G.SKILL RipjawsZ 1600 (10-10-10-30)
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX Titan X Hybrid
TV Tuners: 2 * Hauppauge HVR-1800
Case: CoolerMaster Cosmos 2

thx, but I tried your version its still not working
my board still showed 00 (not used)

I'm afraid there's no other way to do this unless you:

a) Buy a preprogrammed chip and replace it on board.
b) Program one yourself with an EEPROM programmer.

And if the 2xxx versions don't support your Xeon chip too, you'll have to resort into one of those methods..

HI, I've changed the CPU to 3930k and flash the converter, and it booted normally showing converting in progress.
but I was toooo dumb that I didnt install any heatsink on the cpu cuz i thought i was just flashing the bios, so my computer shut down during the conversion progress due to CPU overheat.

Then I re-flash the converter using flashback again and at the first my board wouldnt even boot, and then somehow it booted and stop with code 00, I thought my CPU is broken. But after i changed to BIOS2 it booted and stop with code 01

so I wonder if it's my CPU broken or my bios is damaged?

From power up to the operating system handoff the CPU is at 60% - 80% load. No heatsink for more than a few seconds is never a good idea.

Doubt the CPU got fried by a single #THERMTRIP event but it's theoretically possible. Most likely you have corrupted both chips since the converter is flashing both.. at this point you should do a flash of a 1xxx UEFI renamed to ERALL.ROM instead of R4E.CAP. Then run the converter again. This should fix it.

Thx Nodens, I tried flashing of 1404 and it worked, I'm running 4403 with 4930K now with no problem.
but one thing strange is when I boot up my computer, it re-boot itself like 3 times before i hear the beep and up and running, is it normal?

Ya I realized that, I was so stupid.
