How do I get 5.1 sound with this motherboard Crosshair V Formula

Do I need to buy a sound card? Or is there away to make this motherboard work at 5.1?

Connect your 5.1 system using the colored plugs to the corresponding connectors at the back of the motherboard.

You shouldn't need to buy anything, mate. Didn't your system come with a bunch of 3.5mm connectors with different colors?

Your motherboard has built in surround sound. As the other members have stated you just need the correct cables to attach it to your surround sound system. If you have a surround sound system made for computers it most likely came with the correct cable/s.

Maybe we could help you more if we knew what surround sound system it is you want to use then we could let you know what type of cable/s you need. Most that I have seen are a single cable split into 3 jacks on each end. May vary depending on how the cable connects to your sound system but you should at least have a green, a orangish and a black audio jack end to plug into the corresponding colors of the motherboard. If your sound system has an optical input you can use a single optical cable for the connection.

use the Optical Sound outlet. it will broadcast in 5.1 and only need one cable. im useing it right now with a Turtle Beach XP510 5.1 Surround headset. and you can plug it in to most if not all modern 5.1 Surround units

I am using a Optical right now but everything I try I can only get Stereo out.

What kind of content are you trying to listen to? Music, DVD, Games, etc.. Source needs to be 5.1 audio otherwise you could try simulated surround.

I am using a Harman Kardon 5.1, and using iracing on the Internet. And all I can get is stereo.
