High Pitched Noise coming from somewhere on the board?

Hey guys,

I tried doing a search and couldn't find anything specific to my issue so thank you in advance for any help. I recently upgraded my mobo and cpu to the ASUS z87 - Plus & an i5 4670k. I installed the mobo & cpu into a new case with all of my old components and it booted up but it instantly had a loud high pitched sound coming from it. Everything was fine in my old setup, so I'm confused asto why it's a sudden issue with the new mobo, cpu and case.

Here's the rest of what's installed:
500gb wd HDD
1tb wd HDD
32gb Crucial SSD
Asus ATI Radeon HD5850
700watt power supply (forgot the brand name)
2x additional fans on the case
optical drive is just an lg cdrw i think.

Any ideas? 😞

I should also note that this is a constant noise that begins at start up and continues through the boot. Even lets me boot from the cd to install windows and that's where I stopped out of fear of ruining something. The RAM installed is 12gb - 2x4gb & 2x2gb. All 4 of the sticks are 1600mhz.

Hello mate,

First up can you use only the two 4GB sticks. I assume they are the same?

Then make sure your graphic card power connectors are correctly fitted.

Other ways of problem solving are to remove all hardware from your system, leave only one stick of memory and nothing else. Does the whine continue. If no keep adding hardware, start with a hard drive and repeat. Stop when you hear the whine.

Thanks for your help. It was an alarm coming from the video card. I don't know why but for some reason I installed only 6 pins for the power instead of all 8. The rig is up and running!
