Hero VII issues - pciex16_2 link speed 0 / "second" red Slot not working

Hello everyone,

i just build my new system based on an asus hero vii :

Board : Asus Hero VII
CPU: Intel i7 4790k
PSU: Thermaltake 850w
GPU: 2x MSI GTX980 4G Gaming (SLI intended)
SSD: Samsung 850 pro
RAM: 32GB G.skill Tridentx 2400

Now my issue : my mobo just wont accept the GPU in the second red slot (the one further away from the cpu).

Both cards just work fine when put on the first red slot.
Both cards dont work in the second red slot (tried it with the other card being present and without for both cards)
The card in the second slot does have power (fans/LEDs start to run just like the one in the first one).

There are no other PCI -Cards in my system, no Wicicard or Soundcard etc, just the 2 Graficcards.

I tried various settings found on the forums, for example setting the PCI-Speed from auto to x1 /x2 , setting the PCIE4_x (black) to x1 from auto, disable the eSata controller, Intel Rapidstart, Fastboot and others.

Whats concerning me the most : when entering advanced->onboard devices- NB PCI-Settings, i do get this :

pciex16_1 link speed 8x
pciex16_2 link speed 0x

this is, when both cards are plugged in, with just one card it tells me the pciex16_2 ist "emtpy" , so it does kindof recongnize the second card being present, but the second slot does have "0" Lanes ?

no matter what i try, this pciex16_2 link speed 0x does not change when the second slot is occupied, even if the first slot is empty.

I also tried resetting cmos and updating the bios to the newest version "2012" , it does not change anything.

I thought for a while that i just have to "free up PCI Lanes", but with everything else turned off and still no change, i do suspect a hardwareissue by now - any suggestions /Thoughts would be highly welcomed!

Thank you and best Regards from Hamburg, Germany

I am having the same problem. Did you find a solution or does anyone have any ideas?

My Specs:
Board : Asus Maximus VII Hero
CPU: Intel i7 4770k
PSU: Thermaltake 850w
GPU: 2x ASUS GTX770 2GB
SSD: Samsung 850 pro
RAM: 32GB Corsair Vengeance 2400

Both PCIex16 (x8/8) ports worked normal 3 days ago. My only change was that I packed up computer, moved 500 miles, then reset it up. When I turned system on, and after several hours of trouble shooting I have come to the conclusion that the MOBO is not recognizing the 2nd GPU in PCIex8_2 slot. I have tested both GPU separately in the 16_1 slot. I have power coming to both GPUs in both slots. the BIOS does not see anything in _2, nor is there a second GPU in the Device Manager.

If anyone has any advice that would be appreciated. Hope somehow the slot just didn't die.

Hello,

I am experiencing a similar problem. Please refer to the following thread and advise if you see the same QCode on the mobo (15).

Also, let me know what rev of the mobo you have (I own a rev 1.01).
