Help with z170 gaming pro + 6700k overvolting

markmn123
Level 7
My specs are z170 gaming pro, corsair vengeance lpx 2400mhz (16 gb) actual part number in my bio, corsair ax860, samsung 950 pro 256gb NVMe
As of right now im just trying to run at stock settings. dont want to overclock at the moment so i have most things set to auto or stock settings.
i have MANUALLY set voltage to 1.2 in bios yet when i boot i see 1.4+ on cpu-z and hwmonitor.
i have done multiple setting changes with xmp...stock ram settings...svid disabled...every variation of phase control...am i missing something? i have also messed with ai suite iii to no avail and even ended up uninstalling it all together. i noticed when i chose energy saving it never went above .9v and 1.2ghz
i do want to overclock in the future but for now i just want stock settings and hate seeing the voltage jump so high when i have manually set to 1.2v
at the time of this writing the highest i have seen it jump was 1.48v. this is very concerning to me. any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi markmn123

Welcome to the ROG forum !

In the Digi+ section of the bios set LLC to level 3 or 4, if it's on auto it's likely running at level 9 and the higher the LLC the more it will overshoot the voltage you set.

After changing that run a test and see what the voltage goes to, if it's still overshooting a fair amount you can set the cpu voltage to adaptive mode and use a negative offset.

So just subtract 1.20v from what it's showing during the test and enter that amount as a negative offset.

For example if the cpu is drawing 1.350v during the test, set a negative offset of -0.150v this should keep it at or close to 1.20v.

Thanks nate. with the adaptive setting and a .280 negative offset it sits at .8v on idle and peaks at 1.3. i guess i would still like to see it stay around 1.2 so i will see if
i can keep adjusting to get it to go down. whats weird is my temps never went above like 48c with those voltages under bootup load or watching movies.
now at idle and while typing this im barely at 22c haha and one core is at 18c. is there any reason manual override would not keep voltages there?
this is by far the newest system i have ever worked with and there is so many more features and options then my last. (x58 i7 920)
im not sure what other things i should disable/enable or set static/auto.keeping in mind i just want bone stock. this system is already bloody fast with ramcache
and my nvme ssd. small rundown of config as follows

i have bclk at 100.
xmp 2400 16-16-16-39
core ratio 42 synced on all cores
voltage set to adaptive mode with -.280 offset
cpu load line level 3
(under internal cpu power mgmt)
speed step and turbo mode enabled

what should i do about these?
asus multi core enhancement
cpu svid support
(under digi+)
current capability
vrm switching frequency
cpu power phase control
cpu vccio voltage
cpu system agent voltage

i apologize for throwing it all out there but i am just a bit curious. still doing reading on all these subjuects
