hi,

i have some questions 😄

i own a crosshair v. great mobo by the way.
cpu is an amd fx 8120 Zambezi.
Cooler is an noctua nh-d14.

I currently have set the load line calibration set to ultra high.
cpu-offset +0.0625 (currently primig maybe i can get lower.)

for 4,2ghz it needs +0.3125.

Coretemp reports max temp of 59 C. tj max is 90 C.

how much can i push it further? Can i go up to the 90C?

and why is the temp of coretemp so much lower? ai suite repots something like 78 C.

thank you.

regards

shmo

Since I do not know what other method of measuring temp you are using I can not comment as to why.

I would think you are pretty close to where your ceiling is based on those temps, are they your idle temps or load?

that are load temps.

im currently at 4,2ghz
load line calibration: ultra-high
vcore: 1.38 - 1.392

Coretemp: ~ 59c
cpu temp ~ 70c

core temp says tjmax 90c so there is plenty of room?

If you really want to know what your tmax is for any CPU read the white paper from the manufacture is my advice.

But here is the short version. http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Bulldozer/AMD-FX-Series%20FX-8120.html

Maximum operating temperature 61°C

61 °C for Core or Socket Temp??

Max safe core temp is 62c on your cpu. And your core temp utility is reading just that.
NO, do not push the TJmax 90c!!! Socket temp has been said to be ok up too 72c.
But you need to watch your VRM temps closely, thoses are different and are just as important.
I use coretemp--ai suite--hwmonitor and hwinfo64 wich gives you a lot of info the other do not. Another good one is hardware monitor I use also. My rule of thumb has been to keep core temps under 60c and socket temps under 70c.

Yes you can push futher, but I believe on these cpu,s 65c core temp will throttle it down any way.

The higher the temp, the shorter the life of the CPU.

I hopel, you're just using one of those applications at a time...

I just found out recently that AMD CPUs does not have a sensor like Intel ones have for the core temps... AMD is using some kind of formula to calculate core temps from package temp (if I recall correctly)... - and that formula starts giving appreciable values somewhere above 40-45C...

So, as an extra precaution, I'm keeping my FX8150's and FX8350's CPU temps below 60C...

Your exactly right. That is how AMD CPU temps work.
And below 60c is optimal temps. That is how ever what I was getting at, plus the software I talked about is just what I think work good enough
to gather the info one needs. I have also done many test using 2 or 3 at a time, the ones I use all seem to read the same when I,m benching, but no I never run them all at once.

That is your max CPU temp.
