HELP Overclock + Clear CMOS = No Post

Fong

So today I tried to overclock my 3930k to 4ghz. I first tried using a manual vcore of 1.35v but after instability I decided to try auto. This set the vcore to about 1.38v at load but I was still unable to run LinX. I then decided to go back to stock. However, even after going back to stock settings, I was experiencing BSODS soon after booting up into windows. I thought I would try to clear CMOS. After doing this my system isn't even posting anymore. The debug LED is stuck at b9 (or 69?). I also noticed an led has lighted up red. It is the one on the right of the label cpu_led. What should I do? Help!

What motherboard is this

You could try a full factory reset that should fix the problem. I got a red light to near my CPU but after reset all was fine but yeah don't know if you seen my thread was my PSU failing but reset would work hun. Check my thread.
motherboard ASUS Crosshair V Formula
PSU Fractal Design Newton R2 1000W
MemoryRipjaws 16 GB
CaseArmor Mx
CPUAMD Bulldozer FX-8120 8 Core 3.10GHz

Clocked to 4.5GHz

Im a girl 🙂 so be nice as i bite

Hi there 🙂

I would pull the power and remove the battery for a bit and then retry setting defaults. If the board has a second BIOS you could try that. maybe remove and replace CPU if all else fails.

3.8 volts is impossible I hope....

By the way 1.35 volts is good for 4.6 GHz so I think either you have something wrong with the CPU or the instability is from some other BIOS settings or hardware...like the RAM. Also if you are venturing into overclocking make sure your cooling is good for it and cool the VRM actively this will save you heat related problems..

The motherboard is a rampage iv formula. I have tried the following:

1. Removing the battery for 15 min
2. Using usb to flash bios
3. Switching to second bios
4. Using the memok button

Helppppp

Have you disconnected the power and removed the batery?

Yes I think the power was also off. I'll try again for longer than 15 min. Before when I first built the system I had an issue where it didn't post but it was fixed by using my old graphics card and then replacing it with my new card after the first boot. I have tried this again but even with my other graphics card it isn't posting.

I saw your other thread where you pretty much confirmed the Ram is OK (although I still don't know which kit it is or it's recommended voltage etc.) so.... I would start to suspect the CPU or the PSU. any way to get them tested swapped?

No I don't have a spare cpu. This is frustrating because I paid quite a bit for this system and it has given me so many issues. When I was stress testing temperatures were never above 70 for the cpu. When I went back to stock I was still getting BSODS. However at this point my system still posts. It was after my clear CMOS that the system no longer posts. I what else can I do?

I would take it all apart..Take the Ram out CPU out and unplug everything. Clear CMOS with CPU out. Replace the CPU after you have checked the pins are ok being very careful to fit the cooler properly with even pressure. Then Put in one stick of RAM the graphics card you know works. Reflash bios : http://event.asus.com/2012/mb/USB_BIOS_Flashback_GUIDE/ (make sure you are doing this correctly...the bios light should flash for a whole minute slowly flashing faster..) and try it from there....
Also make sure the slow boot switch and PCIe switches are in the right place etc. And that the CPU fan is plugged in to the CPU fan header and is working.

So I reseated the cpu and the system now posts! However, I run memtest again and I immediately get errors. This is at 1600mhz cl11. I previously successfully ran memtest at 1866mhz cl9. What you I do now? Thanks for all the help so far.
