Having worst time ever with this board :(

I'm trying to use 2 GTX 580 video cards in SLI and every time I go to enable the SLI in the nvidia control panel, the monitors blink, come back with only one out of two monitors on, and the nvidia control panel is non-responsive. I close out, restart, whatever, and the driver is corrupted and can no longer start. Only way to fix this is performing a clean re-install of the driver. I've tried the beta version and the version before that with no luck. The beta version will randomly lock up my pc btw causing me to have to power off the pc and reboot it.


Also whenever I restart my pc, the USB mouse will randomly all of a sudden be an "unknown" device and I have to unplug and replug it back in several times before getting it to work, yet my microsoft bluetooth keyboard/mouse combo works perfectly fine no matter what. Same results on both usb 3.0 and usb 2.0 front panel and rear ports. 😞


Anybody have any idea how to fix these issues? Thanks!


Also can someone point me to the file I need to install to fix this raid controller issue. Drivers for this device are not installed (Code 28). I'm guessing they are the marvell drivers, but the ones I used dont solve the problem 😕

Which Maximus?
Which GTX580's? Asus, ect.?
The rest of the setup could be helpful, memory, ect..?

No Offense, but,
Bridge properly connected? Do you have another bridge to try? (To rule out that it is good.)
What bios version?
Did you try leaving the second monitor off until you set it up?

Sorry, first time having to troubleshoot a SLI setup. It's usually pretty straight forward and works. But I always use intel boards. Anyways, I have the 3way bridge and a regular bridge that came with this motherboard. Does it work if I use a 3way bridg even though it's just 2 cards? I've tried both and the end result was the same. I've tried flipping the 2 way bridge and using both goldfinger slots and same end result.

The bios of the MB is the newest one out.

I haven't turned the monitor off. It's setup with extended desktop.

Unfortunately I dont think I have any extra SLI bridges laying around.

The 3-way bridge will work with only two cards. You may need to reinstall the OS to fix this.

On my Extreme Z , when I enable SLI the primary monitor change from GPU 0 to GPU 1 , I have not yet look at a solution as I simply switch the cable at the back as I always have SLI enable.

This is a fresh install of Windows less than a day old. People who say "Oh just reinstall windows" really shouldn't troubleshoot. ughhhh...

I've tried switching PCI lanes with no luck. Still same end result. If the 3way bridge is fine then it's definitely not a bad bridge as it ends in the same result.


The drivers device status says: Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

Doesn't really matter how old the install is. If the driver broke something within the operating system normally there is no easy way to repair that. As you are implying that I should not be troubleshooting I will leave you to sort this out. SLI works fine on my M4E.

You will find, once you spend a bit more time here that they are more than
qualified to 'troubleshoot'. Remember, Your objective here is to ROG..
just have some patience, this will get worked out.

How is it set up to extended desktop if you have never been in the control panel,,,
answer, Windows has the default hostage.
Did you try to enter control panel through display properties?
I still say...not to speak above those above, I am not, I still say turn off
one of those monitors, reboot, release the windows default in doing so..then click
control panel and see if it loads.
From there, If it isnt faulting because of the default conflict..I would think
then that nvidia is corrupt...shoot'n in the dark for ya brother.
I would wait to see the above respond to these ideas...and others..
and relax...frustration kills...this is fun, remember? hehehehe.

of Windows or another load.........24 minutes remaining...They cant tell

Sorry it's just that I work in IT every day. So I hear that almost as if it is an excuse on a daily basis. Especially if its someones first response to a question. "Oh its broke?" "Oh hell just reinstall windows"

I did as you said and the end result is still the same 😞 I'm on the phone with EVGA and the guy is stumped too. I just started up the computer with each card individually and the driver will work and both cards work on 2 different lanes. So I know the lanes are good and the cards are good.

I notice than I have far less trouble with SLI, when I install Windows with only 1 GPU, install the drivers, reboot, shutdown and then install the secod GPU. But to do so it's means re install Windows, yes re install.
