GTX780 ACX SC unstable performance on MVIE Slot 3(B2)

I have experienced some issue with this motherboard. The third PICE slot from the top, aka PCIe 3.0/20_x8_B2, is causing any graphic card that sit on it performing poorly. I noticed this issue when my two GTX780s in SLI configuration, installed on slot 1 and slot 3 as Asus suggested, gave me poor performance in a random pattern. 2 out of 10 system restarts its benchmark results would go very low than it should, meanwhile the CPU would also be busy occupied by system interrupts, making browsing the internet painfully slow. To narrow down the cause of this issue, I reconfigured the SLI to slot 1 and slot 4(at a disadvantage of not using the native PICe lanes of the chipset) and restarted and tested the system for 10 times. Everything turned out to be fine which eliminates the possibility of bad graphic card/driver. Then I put a single graphic card on slot 1 and tested 10 times, no problem. However, when I put the same card on slot 3 and tested it for 10 times, the poor performance issue appeared again in the same pattern as it was in SLI slot1 and slot3 configuration.

Does anybody here have this kind of issue also? Or should I contact the seller for a replacement?

BTW:My power source is AX1200i, and I'm testing it using dual EVGA ACX 780SC with the case open to keep them under 75 celsius degree.

I've only just come across this thread after trying on my own to work out why my new system had instability. I have 2 ASUS GTX 780s and have moved the 2nd one to slot 3 as has been suggested previously. Just ran Firestrike Extreme and scored 7974 . Here is the link http://www.3dmark.com/fs/1180708 I am going to move my 2nd card back to slot 2B and try with the 3x PCIE setting in the BIOS.

Just ran the test again with 2nd card in slot 2B and 3rd gen PCIE settings forced. Got 8045 this time: http://www.3dmark.com/fs/1180927

Are these scores what I should be getting with no overclocking?

Also ran Firestrike Extreme in a loop for about half an hour and seemed pretty stable (system didn't crash, no slowdowns noticed).

Edit: Forgot to mention I am running 1002 BIOS

hey all is this a problem only for people with 780s? or any dual cards with the second card in B2 PCIE slot?

I have flashed back to 0804 because was getting random error 62 on boot with BIOS 1002, PC would automatically restart and it would be ok. Tried card in slots b2 and PCIX8_3 and did the same thing. I gave up and flashed back to 0804 and moved card back to slot PCIX8_3. Really not sure if I can be bothered with this much longer 😞

Reinstalled windows 8.1 and ran Valley bench again. I had a few hardware changes hence the reinstall of windows. This time, about half way through Valley bench, there's a flash of lightning and FPS decreased to about 28 fps. ?? Quite strange. Never occurred before. ?? Looks OK otherwise except occasional stutter. Bios 0078.

Hsve this issue been fixed now? I have two EVGA 780Ti and my current motherboard (Maxsimus VI Formula) dont wanna start with memory in B1/B2 socket so I need a new motherboard, thinking of getting the Extreme version but not with the SLi problem I have read about here.

For some people with the latest BIOS (1002 or 0078), it seems to have solved the problem, if you read some of the recent posts.

But for some (including me), the problem is still there. Have tried all the BIOS posted in this thread.
Not sure if 780 Ti has problems, Hopper64 reported some results from his 780 Ti's, one page back, not sure if his is stable?

/Cheers

Happy thanksgiving everyone. I would like to report that My (B2) slot issue is fixed with the 1002 bios update 🙂

Been running my sli 780s through the PLX chip the last 2 months. Now with the new Bios update (1002) it seems everthing is stable on mine and my customers machines now. Built 5 systems with the Asus maximus Extreme iv and 2 780's and all of them had the same problem with (B2). Thank you Asus . Shouldnt have happened in the first place but at least you guys fixed it.

Mine seems much more stable now with 1002. I don't have the crashes that I had previously with older bios versions. I continue to test with Valley bench, and I notice some stuttering still, but I don't know if this is part of the way the bench is coded or not. I don't have that much experience with this bench before this problem came up. But it is much improved from the original problems I observed in the same Valley bench as updated bios versions were released. The test would grind to a halt with just a slide show with older bios versions and the audio was corrupted as well. 1002 seems to be the best for me so far.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone too.
