Got Response on the R4E Board

Hey, I don't know if most of you may notice the update on my current R4E and how I said in another thread how I decided to RMA the board where I got it from.

Well I just got a response showing that there is one slight bent pin on the motherboard and they usually charge for this for repair but will do it for free for the goodwill. (Just a note that this First R4E board got brought from PCCaseGear not Gamedudes)

But aneway I didn't built that board, Gamedudes did & Remember how they couldn't find the fault on it on why it wont post (It lasted for 6 months until the cold post issue started to occur).

That was when I thought I give the board a 2nd chance and get the replacement R4E from Gamedudes since they couldnt find the fault with the current one, that has the Cold post issue

and so that was when the cold post turn on issue again occurred during the 4 or 3 months time and that's when I decided to get the Rampage IV formula from PCCaseGear and did the build myself.

After I took the cpu and checked the Gamedudes R4E board the pins were bent like nuts at places and I was like.. "man they didn't look after the board properly"

but aneway, I'm being looked after on PCCaseGear side of it, (and they gonna test on it before sending it back) but on the R4E board but not sure what to do with it..

Heres the pic they showed on the PCCaseGear Rampage IV Extreme.

Use something like a credit card or a razor to carefully and slowly fix the pins.

Well apparently it seems they sending it to ASUS repairs aneway for it and covering the charge for me for free and you never know what else they may find. I'm surprised Gamedudes didn't pay close attention on the pins cause I kept telling them if they cant find the issue check the pins an stuff cause something may be preventing it from turning on or a flaw or such..

But aneway what are your thoughts though?

Should I give this board a 3rd chance even though the 2nd chance Gamedudes didn't do a good effort being careful on the pins and so fourth and do the build up myself?

If so, if I ever decide water cooling, should I get water blocks for the board or leave it be?

It may end up going in a Corsair 900D case if I do water cooling

To be frankly honest I'm kinda new in watercooling and not sure how many radiators it would take if I had to water cool CPU, GPU and then u add chipset.

someone told me just get another GTX 680 and put it in sli but not sure if its worth water cooling them to due that they may grow old soon in years time.

It is quite easy to fix pins.

All you need is a very sharp thin blade or knife. Steady hands and good eyes.

Remember that they are spring loaded so small steps with the straightening process.

True, but they did mention that "We have received your motherboard and upon inspection we have noticed some physical damage to the CPU socket pins"

So they prob show the example of what they mean and explaining that some of the pins are kinda like that. Even though the job sounds easy, you never know what else needs to readjusting or if there something else flaw in the board.

If I did try and align it, it can be difficult where I am since I don't have proper lighting in the house and hard to tell which slight unstraight one needs to be straighten. I don't have magnifying glass here >.<

Nevertheless, I wont receive it back proberly 3-4 weeks (that's what they tell me)

Oh oh, I don't have that good extent of eyes since I have Myopia (blurry on far distance), that's why I wear glasses but meh lol.

Like I can tell if a pins are bent or such but for me it can be lil bit difficult to notice a slight unstraighten one but from a far view I did notice something odd with the pins and tried to like take a pic and zoom in and to see if that's right or not.

Hey why do you think I am called Hivizman? I am nearly blind for short distances, have three sets of glasses for different focal points. 😛

You can also consider taking Boards with bent Socket Pins to your reputable Jeweler....they have the tools and patience and generally wont "gouge" you.
Another good tool that I have used is a pencil with Lead "sticks"...take out the lead stick and use the end with the hollow tip 😉

Yip they work, but only if you can get to the tip of the pin.

I use this one.
