Got a new PSU

In the Maximus IV Formula manual it says attach 8 pin cpu power to the 8 pin connector or 4 pin power to the 8 pin connector or 4 pin power to the 4 pin connector. In my EVGA PSU manual it says attach 8 pin power to the 8 pin connector AND optional 4 pin power to the 4 pin connector for OCing stability. Is that supported by this board?

yes.
8 pin is for main power to the CPU, and the 4pin is for extra juice when OC at 4.8 and over.
the main power to the board ( 8pin ) you can either have 4 or 8 pin connected to it.
but if you can just populate all the power connectors to the board. 🙂

Ah thanks kkn. ...that's the answer I was looking for. Asus manual wasn't real clear, it made it sound like either or. My new psu has all the bells and whistles so I can populate all power connectors. Thanks again

Yes it is...power is rock solid...was a very nice upgrade from a HX850...can't wait to get a second 780ti in SLI. How are you liking your 4790k?

My 4790K is an L4, it overclocks with slightly less voltage and 7-8c cooler under load vs. my 4770K.

So yeah, I'm happy with it, how about you?

Well my 4770k as a dud...clocked to 4.2 and that's it. No fun allowed there. Haven't spent much time with this one yet but have had it to 4.6 with ease. Got to make time to play with it. Like it very much so far.

The joy of the silicone lottery. I have had no luck with the new CPUs at all.
