Getting Aura to work with Asus x99 ROG Strix

Hello, I recently built a new PC using the ASUS ROG Strix X99 Mobo. Everything has been working fine except aura. I ran it a few times and it was working fine, but at on point it froze on me, so i killed the process. Now whenever I run it nothing happens. The AsRogAuraService.exe is still running, but that's it.

Any ideas?

After one week using new software version sometimes lights get stuck again, and software is using 10% cpu resources:



Bad job Asus!!! A ridiculous lighting system on expensive computers that you advertise everywhere is not working for months.

my strip still displays blue color no matter. The lighting on the mobo however, still works. I don't know if I should RMA the mobo to get this fixed.

I don't know if this is relevant to your case but it seems your blue LEDs are permanently on.

bluish purple pink = blue + red
light blue = blue + green

The only reason I can think of that it's not displaying red or green is because the blue LED is always on causing it to emit light blue instead of green or purple/pink instead of red.

But then you say the strip works fine when controlled by your case... Very weird

Are you talking about the mofset in the controller on the rgb led strips?

that was a quote from some googling I did, it seems they're referring to the mosfet in the controller.

I love this board, but the software has just been abysmal. i had to uninstall aisuite due to flakiness, and now if I want to enjoy case ligthing i apparently have to tie up 9% cpu utilization. New software did absolutely nothing. Such a abummer.

So using revo cleaner to uninstall and then installing latest version of aura fixed my cpu usage problem. So glad this is over with. Before i noticed the problem, i couldn't understand why my idle temps were so high considering I am running a custom water loop. Shame on me for not noticing the runaway service earlier. Came very close to pulling the whole thing apart to re-seat cpu block......

I just noticed mine is sitting at 6-7% usage again too.

But after killing the process I noticed the AURA software still works.

I know this will almost certainly fall on deaf ears at ASUS but the problem is somehow related to AsIO.dll. I attached the VS debugger to the process while it is spinning and it seems to be making calls out to the driver over and over in rapid succession without stopping.

AISuite ships AsIO.dll v 1.0.0.2 as well a 1.0.0.4, I have tried both versions of the dll and confirmed the issue exists with both. It is not easy to tell without symbols if the process is calling into AsIO over and over or if there is a loop. Either way this particular CPU consumption is not happening on the main thread which allows the process to remain responsive in some fashion.

ASUS should either fix their software or open source this aspect of the software so we can fix it ourselves.

As a side note, 1.0.0.2 *seems* to not be quite as heavily affected as 1.0.0.4 (which is what is installed by default). Using 1.0.0.2 made the process take hours to start chewing CPU time instead of minutes. I'll probably spend a bit more time trying to hack it to work tomorrow.

Same. The LEDS on the Motherboard operate fine. My LED strips work on with all colors when not connected to the motherboard. It seems something is wrong with our RGB controllers on the motherboard or with the software itself.
