Gene Z/Gen 3 - CPU Multi won't rise above x16 & PFN_LIST_CORRUPT issues.

Hi there, ok little story to explain.. got the pc 2 - 3 week's ago and thing's have been fine, I overclocked via AI suite and it worked fine.. until i started to run into BSOD (PFN_LIST_CORRUPT), so what i have done to resolve this problem was to update every single hardware driver i could find and found out ATI didn't install some drivers properly. That fixed it .... or atleast i thought, it stopped it happening so often.. now it happens when im stressing like playing games from Steam or so forth.. and can happen even when browsing the Internet. So today i had enough, I started by resetting the BIOS to default's and was going to work from there to do various testing and see if it wasn't a setting i pushed too far.

Now i have a problem of after: 3 Bios flash's, 10 CMOS's, and various thing's that the forum tell's general people to do to help them get there PC working again, I even reseated the CPU 5minute's ago and before i placed in it i did a CMOS on that too. And even at stock setting's, or when i reoverclock (done this before reseating too along with the bios flash's - those were last resorts) nothing seems to enable me to get off 1.6GHZ.

PC Specs:

Intel Core I5 2500k 3.3GHZ
Maximus Gene Z / Gen 3 Motherboard
Corsair 16GB Vengance 1.5V
6850 ATI GFX PCI 2.0

I don't usually like to post to forum's for asking help, But i'm out of option's.. just to retell - i had a 4.4GHZ overclock since i bought the pc and only today it has started to give me the humph about re-overclocking.. but i have been having problem's with PFN_LIST_CORRUPT <-- this is the whole reason to why i have been doing this. So if someone could help with both problem's that would be lovely.

Thank you.

PFN_LIST_CORRUPT - This error is typically caused by a driver passing a bad memory descriptor list. For example, the driver might have called MmUnlockPages twice with the same list.

How are you determining that your PC does not budge above 16x multi?

Download CPUz and open it.
Start a virus scan.
What is the frequency of your CPU?

Yep, been running CPU-Z for last few hour's, i stress the pc through prime95 or a game or application and it doesn't rise above x16 multi (1.6GHZ PC) so it's underclocked from its original 3.3GHZ ( as i said in the start post - ive reset the bios settings cmos'd and reseated cpu so its got to be something), Virus scan completed and no virus's and no malware either i've had this problem once before and i was able to randomly fix it some how but i couldn't remember how i did it.. i believe it just started working lol :S but there must a reason to why...

I thought the PFN_LIST_CORRUPT was bad ram, because that referes to it and now your telling me its just some window's driver right? well how do i resolve that problem then, Because i was on a man hunt to RMA my ram because the problem is becoming annoying.

Nope it could be memory too, the driver is simply the vehicle that accesses the memory, Where the error is located is not dependant on the driver.

Easy way to test is to download memtest ver 4.2 and (I use the USB stick version) and rum memtest on your ram.

I take it you have reset the default values in BIOS.

F5 enter
F10 enter
and then do a CPUz

I found the problem, was Turbo V Program from AI Suite. Some kind of setting in there stopped the overclock from turning on.. (Though i never used the program anyway so it was very weird indeed) i have no idea how/why but i removed the program and i am able to get the speed's again now (also currently not able to run the Memtest due to no USB stick.. don't buy those thing's nor do i have a CD Drive either as i've got a classic IDE one and there is no IDE slot on the Gene Z Board :P, But i'll go buy a USB stick today and report back soon with result's.

Okay, CPU back to working standard i'm able to overclock and so forth through the BIOS again like i should be able to. I ran a Memtest on all ram stick's and they were clean, the config's i used was: 4 sticks in one go, then 3/2/1.. Then tested singles in every single channel with every single stick (took quite along time but wanted to confirm ram or motherboard issues) and then dual memory (2 sticks) in all 4 channel's, then swapped and tested other's this way too .. (spend over 3h testing every single config and setup possible) and still no memory issues. But i still get PFN_LIST_CORRUPT error's and they can happen at any time. CPU run's 60'c at full load of 4.2GHZ and GPU run's around 60-70'c full load too so there must be something. I'm running a SATA II 500 GB HDD as main (maybe it's harddrive corruption? or window's problem?) All i know is im at a loose end and i would quite like to fix this problem i have, any more information you need ??).

I assume the STOP code was 0x0000004E: PFN_LIST_CORRUPT?

Normally that is either driver or ram. Since you have sorted the RAM side of it out that leaves drivers. If you go into device manager do you see any conflicts, yellow question marks.

You know you might just have to do a full clean install of your OS, get all the drivers for your hardware together early and have them ready so the process goes real easy.

That is the exact code error i get yes. Seems this might be the best option, I downloaded every single updated driver and installed those too to test and i still get the error. I have just 1 yellow question marked component but i am unable to find the driver without some damn pop up program wanting to give it for me.. Because i'm gonna trust those >..< it's called: WAN Miniport (IKEv2). Apart from that, I simply do not have a damn idea to why this error is coming up, I wish i had a AI PC to just tell me the issue.. maybe that's how computer's will go in the future =P

Likka I was thinking the exact same thing this morning. My RAID array went down yesterday. Today a 4 month old PSU died and took out a very expensive graphic card. Man that irks me, needed some kind of advanced warning and AI is the only thing that would have done that. 🙂

start / control panel / device manager / network adaptors / wan miniport [IKEv2]

update driver software / browse my computer / search: C:\Windows\inf / next & oke & reboot

Give that a try mate.

"Windows has updated your driver but cannot start the driver - code 31." Uninstalled, reinstalled.. disabled and all sort's still cannot get that to go away and install properly. Tonight at 20:19 i was playing Dead Space 2, out of the blue.. (funny joke) came up with BSOD again.. my thoughts now turn to HDD/Windows/Drivers - any of these could be the cause of what's going on in my head atleast. And damn, i am sorry to hear your about your PC equipment, thats one of my worst fears in a PC .. i don't know what i would do if mine blew up some day Oo. May i ask which graphic's card you had? If it was the 680.. i would definatly be even more fuming and raged than usual. (P.S: no matter which way i try to update the driver apart from some how popping the file from the internet does this install but this driver here was fine before and was not the result of these BSOD, so it must be something else maybe like a core Windows file or a Driver. It's hard to debug those types of thing's.) - I wish you well with the PC area too, hope you get them RMAD to the company they should give you a replacement.
