Gene Viii USB-C charge Macbook Pro?

Paul_Anderegg

Does the Type-C port on my Gene Viii motherboard provide enough juice to charge my 2016 Macbook Pro? My job just issued me the Macbook, and I am trying to avoid purchasing a second $80 power brick for my home.

USB power delivery has several different levels of output. The motherboard is not going to deliver as much as a dedicated power brick. So it may be able to trickle charge the Macbook when powered off but that depends on what the Macbook will accept. I think it would be similar to plugging in a USB C cell phone charger.
