Gene V - Installation of Windows 8 Release Preview ? (fails)

any ideas -other than my guess that Windows 8 does not include the appropriate drivers for this Asus board

anyone managed it successfully ? not had an issue in the past with Asus boards and Microsoft "release previews"

this Release Preview is effectively a RC isn't it ? in which case you'd expect it to install on any modern motherboard without issue ?

Do you get any error codes or any thing ?

I tried around 6-7 times - no go on any

this is a clean install onto a clean partition, installation via USB

yes - it installs fine - but then does the "pre-configuring" computer part on initial boot

it goes up to 60 + % then errors out with a white dialogue box (the pre-configuration screen is black)

"windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computer"

Windows 7 installs just fine. I tried removing items like E-SATA etc in case they were confusing things

Are you running the system on stock settings or overclocked ?
Are you running any raid ?

overclocked - but nothing special - I'm running a 3770k @ 4.4

I've reinstalled Windows 7 after overclock with no issue

no RAID

Set back to stock and try again, might be a memory issue.

memory issue ? thats not a route I was looking into.

My PC in windows 7 has been stable under all tests, prime95, 30+ hrs of video encoding etc etc, memtest86+ passes in dos etc

have you successfully installed W8 Release Preview then on a Gene V ? It seems to me that it just doesn't include the right drivers out of the box - but as I said I'm surprised for a near-as Release Candidate

I cant see it being a driver issue,

I have not installed it on a live system no but any time i had my rig overclocked and running Vm player it would crash until i set it back to stock.

Its worth a try.

thanks - I did find this thread -but was previous Preview version - so I'd assumed that Asus/MS had worked together and fixed by now
