FX-8350 Boot Issue

Hello,

I have an issue. My motherboard is a Crosshair Formula V updated to the latest version.

I have installed a FX-8350 with 2 sticks of Vegeance DDR3 1600mhz ram.

When I booted, it wouldn't detect the ram, I know the ram works as I tried with my old outdate processor.

This issue only happened with the FX-8350 when I was using a 3pin cooler, but it works when I used the stock heatsink which is four pin.

Does this mean I can only use a four pin cooler?

Thanks

have you plugged 8 pins into the motherboard CPU power socket or just 4 ?

Also have you cleared CMOS properly incase there's any ram specific settings on the old sticks still there?

Hi, I definitely tried clearing the CMOS, even removed the battery.

I have 8pin plugged into the motherboard, but I have left the other 4pins free as I don't have another wire for these extra four.

My ram serial is: CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B

And Im running a 550w Corsair PSU with a HD 5750 card and a couple of hard drives.

Thanks

It was a Corsair H40.

I know it's not great but managed to keep my previous stuff alot cooler than stock coolers.

This cooler worked on this motherboard with the previous CPU I was using (Athlon x4 II 620). As soon as I changed the cooler on this, the pc booted. I tried resitting everything, testing each bit one by one with no luck.

When you were using the H40 with the FX8350 and you turned on your system, did you verify to see if the fan and pump was working?

You haven't got the cpu header set for PWM in bios have you? Instead of DC, try it on an opt or chassis fan header see if that helps aswell.

Chino - I was using it for the FX8350. I can't confirm it was working with that, but I was using it an hour earlier on the other processor which was fine.

Lewybear - I have no idea, I'll check in a second in teh bios, what setting should it be on?

Would this error be enough to give me a ram error? A ram error seems very unrelated to a CPU fan.
