Frozen Time Clock in UEFI - The Fix

Raja
Level 13
Is your motherboard suffering from the malady of a frozen time clock in UEFI?

If so try the following:

1) Reflash the latest UEFI, using EZ Flash 2 or USB BIOS flashback.

2) When the system POSTs, enter UEFI. Once in UEFI power down the motherboard. Keep the PSU attached and "on". Only the motherboard is powered off and in "standby". You will see the MB standby lights on (boards with start buttons onboard will be lit). Standby does not mean the board is actually running, standby means the board has power, but you have not pressed the power button to turn it on. Make sure the board is off before you go to the next step in this list. You will know if it is off because if you leave it for 5 seconds it should not POST~BOOT - this means it is in standby.

3) Clear CMOS (Clear RTC) for 10 seconds. This will clear the Management Engine.

4) Power up the system, enter UEFI, set the clock and then save and exit.

5) Update MEI driver to Version 9.5.14.1724 in the OS.

6 )Carry on using the system as normal.

The above steps should fix the issue.

so ... let me get this straight.

It has been almost a full year here on this thread (it has been a FULL year on others, see http://rog.asus.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-33895.html ) and only now does Asus acknowledge and supposedly fix the problem ??? What the heck !?

Anyways, I am on Maximus Extreme VI here with the same issue, awaiting a fix. Weird thing is, it was working fine for almost a year now. It started happening in the last few days.

One thing I need to mention is that I DID change something. I have enabled C7 state for the CPU. It was on something much higher that that all this time. When I get back home from work I will give it a go and see if disabling these deep C states fixes the problem.

Before I do that however another question to Asus : was by any chance the problem related to that at all ?

And finally just checked the the downloads page for my board and there is a new BIOS 1505 posted yesterday. It only mentiones "Improve System performance" nothing about RTC clock. So does it or does it not include the fix ? If it does a shame a post has not been added here to say that new BIOS'es are out for the ROG series ...

Raja, please may I have a comment on all the above ?

I tried the 1505 bios for my Maximus Extreme VI and it did not fix the clock issue. Clock was kickstarted by the bios update, ran correct for about an hour, then stopped again.
Asus Maximus Extreme Z, Intel 2600K at 4.5, Noctua NH-D14 cooler, MSI GTX 670 PE/OC, Dell U2412 monitor, 8GB Gskill Sniper memory at 1866, Corsair HX850 Power Supply, Asus Xonar Essence STX, Samsung 128 gb 830 ssd, WD RE4 2 tb X 2 in raid 1, Intel 320 870 gb ssd, Filco Tenkeyless keyboard, Logitech G400 Mouse, Audioengine A5 speakers, HP Officejet 6500 printer

I for one will not be installing a BETA BIOS file into my system. One step forward, 2 steps backwards...
Asus has not exactly earned my confidence with full RTM releases, let alone beta updates. Experimenting with the BIOS firmware is the last thing anyone should be doing!

Who here said 1504 beta for the HERO cures the problem anyway? Anyone seen a changelog?

Will ASUS release a detailed change log for the BIOS update when (if) it is released. If not, why not?

I feel for the Asus reps who staff these boards ..... I'm sure they feel as much frustration as user's trying to get answers. The failure to list what changes are in the BIOS is especially annoying as it flies in the face of the "if it ain't broke" mantra. I can't help but wonder if it's related to the TS policy of refusing tech support on any matter if you don't have latest BIOS loaded. I was refused support on a networking issue because I didn't have 1102 loaded and informing the tech that that BIOS came out after the latest networking driver didn't sway his position any. But, since I had to use another puter to d/l it, due to the networking issue, it did end the call which seems to be the main goal of TS industry wide.

well its about time Asssus did something ,
its been a year, ,,,, how is Assus going to compensate every one for the year of hell , with a 400.00 dollar inadequate product,,, I brought this up to asssus a year ago, to the CA , US office ,,,, then they stopped giving me support because I got rude with them because the refused to acknowledge the problem ,,, So what do you have to say for all that ignorance from Asssus ,
Asus used to be good , now they are like trash ,,,, and screwing the consumer ,,, they take our money and run,,,,, hell they don't even keep the drivers up to date ,,, I have Maximus VI Hero and the USB driver And Chipset Driver And the RST driver are all old Intel has released 2-3 updates ,,
what the hell is wrong with you Asssus
if no likes this post I am sorry, but I call as I see , and Asssus , deserves it and more ,,,,
they should of corrected this problem and admitted to it a year ago
i have the notion to contact the US attorney general , and get a class action on assus for this ,,,, we pay good money for their product,,, and they just screw us and jerk us around ,,, and their dam phone jockey for support are dumber then a box of rocks ,,, or just lazy , rma rma rma , that is all those dumb as*es know how to say and do , and all that does is cost the consumer and asssus more money because the new mobo ,, has the same issue ,,, dumb as* phone jockeys ,,,, go get a real job and do something constructive

i i'm paulo, since i install rog front base in asus formula XI, my time dont work properly, i have follow all the settings that come in manual, but nothing work well, i set the time and run ok, but if i have to restart, wen pc is on again the clock change.....

It maybe just by chance but I installed the 1504 bios yesterday on my Hero VI and the timing has started working. Before it screwed up every hour or so.

Don't know what'll happen for everyone but it might be worth the chance if time keeping is causing you problems.

Raja & Praz,

Still a little confused .... checked out the MB's on the list (3 of them) and the bios mentioned that will fix RTC issue and not one of them mentioned the RTC issue...
The Z87 Pro didn't even show a 2004 bios available...Just an 2003 beta and a 2005 bios but still no mention of RTC fix ????? Also checked the PRO and the Deluxe Z87 bios 2004 and no mention of RTC issue... also Google for any one solving the RTC problem with new bios and nothing ????
I'm sorry but after 8 months of BS I have lost faith and would truly appreciate a straight answer with confirmation from someone who has actually solved the problem with these bios updates....(can't help but wonder why the one's listed don't mention a RTC fix) Yes, I realize that the old temporary fix can last up to 9 weeks because that's my record..... I went down again today...
Hopefully you won't delete my post's again and will try to give a valid response... Thank you....
