formula vi + 4790k makes me cry.. (please help)

Hey guys,

I'm pretty desperate right now..

story:

bought a asus maximus formula vi and 4790k from someone and after building the whole system and watercooling literally everything I cranked her up..

Some error 55 codes, so I reseated the memory and after some tries it starts.

I installed Windows and so far so good.

Now the problem: when I start up any webbrowser my screen goes black or the windows gets yellow or orange and it crashes.. windows is running fine, but whenever I browse, the browser fails..

what I tried:

other ram modules
other ssd
other windows (8 instead of 8.1)
mobo bios updated
more voltage at cpu
more voltage at ram
down clocking ram and voltage
onboard gpu instead of 290x crossfire
reinstalled windows with every change I made!

I tried everything, but to no avail..

Two things are left... mobo or cpu
I can't check that, because I got everything under water and with short tubes..

Please give me some tips! its my birthday and I gave myself this present, but the last couple of days gave me a headache...

Hi conwa and yes some problems can drive you to tears, and give you a headache.

Is this, Quote: "windows is running fine, but whenever I browse, the browser fails.." only occurring in your browser and which browser are you using?
If so then try another browser and see if problems reoccur.

It will crash using any browser (chrome, Mozilla, ie etc.) in windows desktop.
I can use the integrated windows 8.1 browser without a crash, but thats not solving the problem..

by now i also changed the psu and used the third power connection on the mobo (the extra one), but no luck..

also: i used my laptop ssd with windows on it, exact same problem and now i know that even in steam or other online programs i get weird textures..

my ie page is turning yellow and blue and sometimes the whole screen turns black..., but only when using a webrelated application..

its on the onboard gpu now, so its not a graphical thing from outside the processor.

OK we can eliminate some things that it isn't.
What we know it is not:
The PSU cause you tested it.
Your GPU cause its occurring with the MB onboard graphics.
Not a fault with your SSD.
Not an issue with Bios settings.

Quote: "my ie page is turning yellow and blue and sometimes the whole screen turns black..., but only when using a webrelated application.."

If this is only occurring when browsing and not during normal computer operations, then you could have a poor Ethernet connection or WiFi modem problem. Try running your browser in offline mode with your adapter disconnected.
Try running Windows in Safe Mode with and without internet.
Do you have another system to test with or a neighbor you can ask to test your modem?, and try changing your cabling or adapters.
Do you have another monitor to switch and test with, and test your monitor cables?.

Have you ever conducted a stress test of your CPU ?
We will get there eventually.:)

Thnx for your help! highly appreciated..

I changed the ssd and got everything out of my case and mounted on a testbench with aircoowing.
With or without internet it will crash (even with lan turned off in the asus bios.
I tested it with 2 sets of mon it or cables and even hdmi cables.

A windows memory test gives me no errors.
Intel burn test will crash when opening..
real temp X's bench runs fine
it feels like a ram problem, but no errors and different ram didn't help..

I can ppromise you its not a router or internet problem. it's a hardware thing or something in the bios that conflicts with the 4790k.

The error I once got was:

appcrash
jscript9.dll

when I google that, it's something that's quite common, but not just after a fresh windows install...

Ok well i'm not saying it is the cause of your problem but you will have to rectify the Java issue.
A .dll (dynamic link library) will cause an application to crash if the .dll is corrupted or not in its correct DIR.
Suggest you update Java. https://www.java.com/en/download/help/windows_manual_download.xml
Did you set your XMP profile for your DIMMs?
Have you tried clearing CMOS to get back to default values?
Replaced the CMOS battery?
I'm running out of ideas, Cause the next tests involve either swapping the MB or CPU to see if either is the problem.

I cleared cmos numerous times..
I updated Java, no fix..
changing to xmp doesn't help..
ordered another motherboard to test the cpu,
I will let you know what happens!
