I AM NOT RESPONSABLE IN ANYWAY IF THIS DAMAGES YOUR MOTHERBOARD THIS IS FOR PEOPLE THAT DONT HAVE FLASHBACK
AND HAVE NO OTHER WAY TO ROLL BACK THEIR BIOS I REMOVED THIS TUTORIAL BUT DECIDED TO PUT IT BACK FOR NOW AFTER ALOT OF PMs

How to flash you Asus Mother Board using a USB

This is for people that want to rollback their bios but EZ Flash wont let them

Example: you are on bios 1001 then you up date to bios 3401 but you decide you want to go back to 1001 because your system was more stable on 1001 but bios 3401 wont let you go back using the flash tools in the bios or windows.

This method uses a tool called AFUDOS.exe to flash your bios in Dos

1st thing to consider make sure u have "American Megatrends Bios"
- To check this in Windows 10 or 8.1 just right-click on the Start button and then choose Run.
- In the Run window or search box, type the following exactly as shown: msinfo32 and push enter or ok
Your System info should pop up and you can see your Bios

2nd thing to consider - THIS IS EASY it may look hard or like alot of steps but its not
Now that you confirmed you have a "American Megatrends Bios" and that its not Brain surgery we can proceed

SOFTWARE and Files that you will need

DOWNLOAD LINK - https://www.dropbox.com/s/mpsaqxahhtccgls/Flash%20Bios%20USB.zip?dl=0
Files needed (included in download above)

- Rufus Format
- AFUDOS.exe (this is software used to flash your bios)
- The files I have included in the "Copy to USB" folder (this is in the download I provide)
- UEFITool.exe (this is to convert your .CAP files to .ROM files)
- And of course your Bios File (this you will need to get from your Motherboards support page)

All of the software and files needed are included in the download link

----- CSM MUST BE ENABLED IN YOUR BIOS IN ORDER FOR THIS TO WORK -----
----- IF YOU HAVE IT DISABLED YOU CAN DISABLE IT AGAIN AFTER YOU FLASH YOUR BIOS -----
----- MAKE SURE YOUR .ROM FILE IS NAMED bios.rom OR IT WONT WORK -----
----- YOU CAN KEEP ON USING THIS USB STICK FOR YOUR MOTHERBOARD OVER AND OVER AGAIN AS LONG AS YOU NAME THE BIOS FILE bios.rom WHEN USING IT WITH THIS USB -----

I was going to write a tutorial but I thought it would be easier to do a video...

Did not work for my tuf gaming z490 plus wifi says all done but just screws up the 2401 bios and leaves it in place
then I have to reflash the 2401cap to get drives recognised again.
Not booted correctly since the 2k series bios came out for me they should never release a bios without the rollback option.

I doubt it will make a difference which CPU you are using, Ryzen 2000 or Ryzen 3000 when using this bios downgrade tool

I personally like to test all bios version out of curiosity, not because i need to upgrade

I did however test the latest version for this motherboard version 2703 , then i downgraded again

I believe you are doing something wrong

First of all, this did absolutly nothing and my bios version didn't change at all!
So, after little study I have find 100% working and safe solution, and here we go:
Follow carefully this tutorial and did just one change:

You have to replace AMI Firmware Update Utility v5.X.X.X (AfuEfix64.efi) in EFI > BOOT folder, for an earlier version of AFU. For me and most Asus motherboard owners, AMI Firmware Update Utility v3.X.X.X will work just fine:

Edit: BEFORE FLASHING ANYTHING, YOU MUST DISABLE SAFE BOOT IN BIOS, (you can return it later) and you must properly change your .cap bios extension to .rom extension (downloaded from the asus site) in Windows 10 OS
That's all folks, safe downgrade and cheers... 🙂

Thank you, seems very informative and detailed. I appreciate you sharing the specific steps, including the need to replace the AMI Firmware Update Utility and disable Safe Boot in BIOS before flashing anything.

I'm sure this information will be helpful for others who may be experiencing similar issues with their BIOS versions not changing.

Hello libojer2, I am hoping to upgrade my ASUS PRIME A320M-K CPU from an AMD A6 9500E to a RYZEN 5 4600G. However, I am unable to upgrade the BIOS because the latest version is incompatible with my current CPU. When I install the new CPU, I do not receive a display. Could you assist me in resolving this issue? I appreciate your help in advance.

I can't make this work with a B660 motherboard. I tried and i'm getting "error 46". Thanks!

EDIT: I was able to get to the "BIOS is write protected" error. An advance is an advance, lol. What can i do?

Hello galacticaph,

What exact model of motherboard are you using and what method are you trying to update the bios with?

Also, what bios version is currently installed?

Hello, and sorry for the late reply. I have the latest BIOS, but it's showing below ambient temperatures. I'm trying to downgrade to 1605 BIOS revision. I'm trying to use the method given in this post. Mobo is a ROG STRIX B660-A GAMING WIFI D4.
