Fitting a soundcard in my MaximusV Formula crossfired rig, ideas?

Heya all,
Haven't been around for a while after I RMA's my 7970ghz but I've finally had it refunded and got another brand 280x to crossfire (now identical 280x's tis swish!) But now I want to fit in my soundcard and thought i'd ask the knowledge I trust here about it!

I had an issue when first getting it working, the dreaded ULPS bug every time I started up after installing the drivers I'd get a black screen with a flashing cursor. Fixed it by going to safe mode and disabling ULPS in the registry. Has anyone else encountered this? Is there a better solution? Happened when trying to crossfire my old 7970Ghz too.

BUT! Most important question, my Soundblaster ZX. I can't fit it in my top PCIEx1 spot anymore as my new fan blocks it 😞 I'm running a 2600k SandyBridge CPU on a Maximus V Formula so my two top full PCIex slots are running in 8x for the GPU's.

Now my bottom full slot though it well clear of the GPU's, what I wanted some advice on is can the small PCIE 1.1 card go in that full slot at the bottom, and will that effect the performance of the two crossfired GPU's?

I have mine in the first slot , can you fit it in the slot between your cards ? I couldn't put it in the last slot because my PSU blocks it .

Hello

Installing any card in the third PCIe x16 slot will result in the second x16 PCIe slot dropping to x4 speed.

I just tried it two days ago, and it seems to have left it as 8x!

Fingers crossed. I'm running it on an i7 2600k so in crossfire both slots go to 8x (which is fine, the performance boost has been amazing!)

GPUz is reporting both slots at 8x when load is pu on (in Heaven / Test or just gaming) so seems to be working fine in the last PCIEx slot.

Og Kill3r: Yes i do have a little slot between them, i just felt the bottom might be better as it will only get in the way of one card, whereas in the middle it will cramp up both. Fingers crossed it is working well!

Good to hear 🙂
