first blue screen today

bios 1403 x64 (factory) in sig/rig
Been running the radeon gamer @ 2133 (AMP profile) with no problems and it's passed memtest.
A few days ago I started having problems with an ASUS R9290-4GD5 skipping and thinking the card might be the foe so I put the ASUS GTX680-DC2-4GD5 back in and all was well. Today I put the ASUS GTX780-DC2OC and it started skipping, then problems showed up in Firefox and then finally booted itself and gave me the first blue screen message. I then went to bios and reset to optimized defaults. Since then things seem OK again but I'm a pragmatist so we'll see.

ps.... optimized defaults set the ram to 1866

Hello mate

What did the event viewer in OS suggest was the cause of the fault.
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

Critical Error Event 41 kernel-power

Ah that could have been anything.

VGA drivers could be a cause of this as too the AV software you are using. Just too many variables for that fault.

It seems the problem stared about the same time I was talked into trying Avast. Uninstalled that stuff and will let it run as is for a few days. Thanks Viz.

Any update on this matter?

Seems it was Avast that was causing the problem. I uninstalled it and haven't had any problems since. And since you're considering a build with the same basic components as mine I'll add that it's the "only" problem I've had.

That's good to know.

As an aside, I went and read all of your posts here on the forum to see if there was anything else I could learn about my own build. 😄

Thanks for letting us know what the problem was.

My two cents: I've been using Microsoft Security Essentials for a couple of years now (XP and Windows 7) without any issues SO FAR.
