First Attempt O.C. 2700k Maximus Extreme Z

Still pretty new to the overclocking business, so to start I went into the bios and enabled manual under the "extreme tweaker" tab, was feeling brave so set v core to 1.35 and tried for a 5.0 over clock on the maximum turbo setting, windows booted up, went to open cpu-z and it crashed, lowered the max turbo to 4.8, occt ran for about a min and a half before crashing, so upped the vcore to 1.37, ran for about 10 minutes this time before crashing, so lowered the max tubro again to 4.6 (kept the 1.37 v tho) ran occt for 1 hour (1min idle at start 5 min idle at end) large data set -using all the cores, it passed this test thankfully, again this is just my starting point, im sure I have alot more to tweak, I kept my ram at 1600 and also kept hyper threading enabled.


Maximum temperature ranged in the 68-73 region however the CPUTIN was around 68 aswell it said the CPUTIN MAX was 127? so ocassionally it would read CPUTIN spiking at 127 (literally for a second) then drop back to 68ish degrees??

Sorry I cant give much more info but again still rather new to this, would you like any of the 14 files occt creates when the test finishes?

edite new idle temp reads 25 dgrees in asus ai suite II and 37 degrees in occt il go by occt's atm lol

If you a satisfied and everything works OK, save that bios, and store it on a flash stick (for example), and use it as default..

Then you can create OC profiles, in ai suit... And just switch in a sec..

There are some parameters that can be changed in bios, for better stability, and increased OC range..

But i don't go there now..

yeh 4.7 somethink XD brought my 1600 ram to 1688 - maxxive boost 😛 lol, I saved the profile as 1 of the options in the bios, you can save 8 bios settings, Ive a stock, the 4.6 I did and theh 4.7 ish Asus software completed, going good thus far lol

ai suite says idle temps approx 20 degrees occt approx 28 degress, ok as idle temps?

I dont know your age, but there is a fact (in sweden), that friends tend to know best ) at least they think so, because they have heard it from their friends, and so on). Dont listen to them, if thats the case.

what would you say has a more accurate temperature indicateor - occt or asus AI suite 2

asus - idle of 15 degress - hasnt changed much in last half an hour 1-2 degrees ish

occt - idle of 28 degress - fluctuales up and down by +or - 2 degrees?

its up to 17 degrees now - and thats with the whole "run at 1700mhz" when not stressed not 17 degrees at the 4700 mhz lol (jesus I wish) lol it just seems occts approx 28 degrees seems more plausable


my 5670 1gb is running at 850/1050 and 26 degrees 😉 - thou thats very reliable - was running at 50 degrees in my micro case, so in the full ohantom wwith 6 fans I'd well believe the temperature is 26 degrees, never had an issue with "C.C.C" temperature sensors

yeh Thats why I'm edging towards the occts reading (ps itsalso very cold in ireland atm so that may help with the cool temps lol )
