That was my conclusion too!!

So I bought an Aerocool Touch-1000 Fancontroller, not to expensive but works like a charm!

Hi;

You’re in luck.

This board is WONDERFUL with fan speed control.

I went through many 5 1/2 inch fan speed controllers in the front panel but in the end they ALL failed me…

  • NZXT Sentry LX... Very nice 5 fan and temp controller. Main problem is after a few months the screen fads and turns dark. Have gone through 2 of these.
  • Aerocool Touch 2000... Very nice touch panel but like the NZXT Sentry LX after a few months the screen fads and turns dark. Have also gone through 2 of these.
  • Scythe KM01-BK KazeMaster... 4 separate fan RPM controls but the screen also faded after a few months. Have gone through 2 of these also.
  • Scythe KM03-BK KazeMaster Pro... 6 separate fan RPM controls but the screen also faded after a few months. Had enough after only 1 of these.

Bottom line on most all front panel fan/temp controllers is the cheap LCD screens all start to fad after a few months.

My solution to this mess is three fold…

  • I use the Asus AI Suite II (with custom fan speed/temp controls) that comes with the Crosshair V MB for separate control of the chassis and CPU fans (SEE: screenshots).
  • I use AIDA 64 (Preferences\LCD Items) to create 4 separate screens that…
  • The LCD screen on my Logitech G19 keyboard monitors at all times (SEE: screenshots).

The beauty of this system is I ALWAYS see the current state of my CPU, Temps and Fans no matter what is going on as the G19 screen is totally separate from the main monitor.

If you don’t have a G19 keyboard you can still see the same information that AIDA64 produces by setting up the same screens using AIDA64 Hardware Monitoring Sensor Icons on your main monitor.

WELL.... it seems that for some reasons the Forum is not allowing me to upload any JPEG's today so I will have to show you the screen shots later (when it starts working again).

speedfan can control the cpu and chassis fans but you have to disable their control in bios.

The nice thing about using AI Suite II is that it overrides the BIOS fan control. What happens is the fans may go a little wild at post and early boot but slow down to your settings as soon as AI Suit II loads in Windows.

Has been working like a champ on my system for the last two months.

Lets's try this JPEG thing again.

Still no luck.

Does anyone know if there is a problem adding attachments in the Forum at the current time. I have done it before with no problems but that was on the previous ROG Forum before the changes were made.

So, the obvious next question: Is there any documentation on how to control the fans and other features of the board so I can hack up some Linux code?
The UEFI fan control in the UEFI is simplistic - it's strictly linear so with the delays from thermal mass, fans spooling up and air starting to flow you get some nice oscillations when the CPU goes from idle to some medium amount of power.
