Facing problems with HDD, anyone HELP!

I'm new to the ASUS maximus VII family and i recently owned a Maximus VII hero for my PC build. When i assembled my PC and
connected all the parts carefully (because it costs heck a lot of money) and switched on, i couldn't install Windows on the HDD.
My motherboards BIOS detects the HDD but shows {WDC WD20EZRX-22D8PB0 (0MB)} and when i start to boot with a bootable disk
the HDD is not shown in the partion window of the installation window. I'm very scared to do anything ahead of this and want a
solution for this. If any one can HELP me please do.

Hello chinoph

Welcome to the ROG forum.

There is nothing special you have to do to get the capacity to read, I will suspect you need a firmware update or you have a faulty drive.

Thanks for your concern Nate152, I'm new to these stuffs and a helping hand is must when someone like me is around these beasts. i'll surely try to update the firmware. There is another question in my mind about the installation... Is it necessary to have a SSD for the OS installation or we can just put it on the HDD?

Dear Nate152,
Just updated the firmware and started the PC still the HDD shows in BIOS but not in OS installation window. Can i try to install the OS on the HDD out of the case and then fix it inside? Will the PC read the HDD? I'm just praying that the HDD is working fine coz a bit low in budget after buying these stuffs. any suggestions?

hello chinoph,
i have the same mainboard and cpu , looking at my PC Specs.
Bios update done? actually version? HDD-drive connected correctly , SATA and power?
After Bios update , its better you clear CMOS and after clearing you go with F2 in Bios , check date and time , press F5 , save and exit with restart --> than look in
Bios for SATA configuration. CMOS clearing can fix some issues.

Have you look in Bios for SATA-mode (advanced menu > pch storage configuration) ? Sata Mode Selection ---> AHCI . if not ahci, change it --> F10 and save.

There is no problem to put operation system on HDD or SSD , but on SSD the system has an better performance.
tell us , if anything happen.

I've cleared the CMOS and checked the cabling properly every thing is correct, even the PCH storage config is set to AHCI... but still no appearence of HDD in installation windows. Should i format it externally and then try it again?

Is your HDD showing the capacity in the bios after updating the firmware, that is to say it's not showing 0 MB ?

If so then yes try formatting it.

hdd is brand new i hope? like not taken from another pc and put inside new one?
what sata port is the hdd connected to?
first sata port? (intel controller)
or last one (asmedia )??

Dear ROGer's,
Yes, The HDD show the capacity in the BIOS but like this:
In the Advanced\PCH storage config window it shows - WDC WD20EZRX -22D8PB0 (0.0GB) but
In the Boot window under Boot priorities option it shows - P1: WDC WD20EZRX -22D8PB0 (2097152MB) and
Under the Boot override option also it shows - P1: WDC WD20EZRX -22D8PB0 (2097152MB).
Now, tell me what to do? It's almost 3 days from today i'm not able to on the PC. Why is this difference shown in the BIOS? is the HDD still working?

Yes, its brand new just took it out of the cover three days before and it is connected in the 1st sata socket.
