Extremely quiet microphone ASUS MAXIMUS V GENE

Hello guys,

I bought this amazing motherboard but there's either an issue with my microphone, or the motherboard.

Here's the thing - when I put my mic directly in front of my mouth (talking like half an inch), it fills up the microphone bar to the top. The moment I move just a little bit away suddenly no one can hear me and the mic bar in the control panel doesn't even get one green line.

Literally I need to put it almost in my mouth, any other way I'm soundless.

Does anyone know what might be the issue? I have installed the latest drivers from realtek + the Creative ones. And the only way people can normally hear me is when I boost my microphone +20DB more..

Does anyone know what might be the cause of this?

Hey guys

I wonder if maybe noise cancelling is kicking in once you move the mic too far away from your mouth?

It is not related to the noise canceling. I have disabled this feature. The problem is the low sensitivity of the microphone input which can be reduced only by boosting the volume level of microphone and using microphone boost. This however leads to high noise in the signal. It seems that it might be really problem with the drivers or the microphone preamp on the integrated sound board does not work properly or is missing (I don't know).

Interesting is that it is significantly better in case that the front audio panel is disconnected (regardless to the fact that the microphone is connected in the back directly to the motherboard).

Frankly speaking I am quite disappointed in this regard. I expected that the SupremeFX integrated sound card will be good in all aspects without need of such experiments. Originally I thought that the problem is electric grin in our flat (some ground loop or something) or that something is just interfering with signal... but when I read that so many people all around world have same problem, I thing that it is in the mainboard or drivers.

Today, I bought standalone internal sound card, so I will try it and let you know if the problem will be "solved".

Why do u have Creative drivers? are creative drivers for your mic? have you tried a earlier version of the realtek drivers?

Do you know the Microphone Sensitivity, Microphone Impedance, and or the Microphone Frequency Response?

And you're on a max gene VIII? with windows 10? 64 bit home? pro?

was your old set up with the same windows version just different hardware IE MoBo/proc ect?

I did not have Creative drivers. Where dis you get such information? I tried all Realtek drivers (all version availible for ASUS Maximus VIII Gene) and also generic driver from Realtek. I also tried generic Windows driver.

Unfortunately I dont know details about the Mic's. I tried Zalman Mic1 and some basic Creative Headset.

Yes, I am using ASUS Maximus VIII Gene with Windows 10 64 bit Pro.

The problem is not in the Microphones but in the mainboard. I tried them in my laptop and both microphones worked OK.

Generally, I just think that the integrated soundboard on ROG mainboard sucks with its Mic in. I just bought dedicated sound card (Sound Blaster ZxR) and it is much better.
