Ethernet dropping connection & Windows Installer errors

Arktok

Still having some issues with the new build (http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?23734-Maximus-V-Formula-Intel-build-A2-%28IDE-detect%29-cod...😞

1). Windows Installer doesn't seem to be working as it ought (can't install 3DMark 11 that came with the GPU). I'll post a screenshot of the error message after I get home.

2). Ethernet (Suddenlink) is dropping the connection over, and over, and over even though the cable is good (worked on my last machine). Connection should be 2Mbps up/down but I'm only getting from 80-250Kbps but again, it keeps dropping to 0Kbps every couple of minutes, max. I can't download diddly. "Troubleshoot problems" can't find anything wrong and the diagnostic tools in Device Manager for the cable, connection, and hardware all show everything's working properly. (Except it really isn't.)

Solutions I'll attempt:
1a). I'm going to try to download 3DMark from a different mirror and then install it.
1b). If that fails, uninstall and reinstall Windows Installer. Repeat 1a.
1c). If they both fail (and I can't fix Problem #2), Repair Install Windows 7.
1d). If all that fails, Clean Install Windows 7.

2). No real clue how to solve the ethernet problem. I'll double check using speedtest.net and see if it's anywhere near where it should be. If it is, I can try to reinstall the driver, and if that doesn't work I can try to flash the BIOS again, in case there was a hiccup during the first one but, really, ethernet's either going to connect or it isn't. This better not be a bad port on the board. (FYI, wireless and bluetooth are turned off so they're not interfering, and the computer's set to a home network but it's the only pc on the network.)

***Any suggestions?

Okay, Speedtest says my connections 5.90Mbps download/43.26Mbps upload. Really don't understand why the connection keeps getting interrupted.

EDIT: Ran speedtest a 2nd time right after and it never got past 100 Kbps then dropped the connection. Checked the connection for my laptop and it was 4.3 down/19.7 up
12441

Disabled wifi/bluetooth in BIOS (rather than just in Windows) and restarted. Won't connect and to establish wants the user name and password from my ISP. Strange since setting up the last time just involved clicking a link in my email. Gonna dig through it and see if I can find that.

Added my MAC address to my profile with my ISP and re-checked speedtest. Downloads are running at ~115 Kbps. Screenshots of speedtest reults below. This is bouncing around everywhere and driving my crazy. Help please?

Is that a onboard intel 82579V? if so, the best solutions is to add a lan card and stop using it until intel/asus solve the problem

http://communities.intel.com/thread/20429?start=0&tstart=0

p.s. I still have problem using 17.3 driver, that's why I still keep using the good old 1000PT dual port

Yes, it's the onboard Intel Gigabit 82579V that came with the MVF. I payed almost $300 for this mobo - I should not have to add a LAN card, the component should work correctly. I read your link; it's completely ridiculous that this problem has been around since March 2011. Either Intel should have fixed it or ASUS should have stopped using buggy hardware.

The port shows a steady orange light next to it so I'm pretty sure it's the hardware.

Connections to webpages is okay; downloads, gaming, and netflix keep dropping.

o.O you have the strangest ISP i've ever come across. In the few years i've been learning about Net Connection speeds...yours is the craziest I have ever seen!!! I have never seen an upload speed that exceeded a download speed...and by such a huge margin. Anyway...have you tried using a different CAT5(e)/6 cable?

My ISP is Suddenlink, connection should be 2Mbps up/down. (I plan to upgrade the tier later.)

My cat5 cable works fine with my old pc and my laptop. I've ordered a cat6a cable from monoprice that should be here this weekend (EDIT: Scheduled to arrive 10/16). We'll see if that makes any difference but I don't expect it too.

I've been scouring Intel's support forums and the interwebs, and I'm seeing a lot of similar problems with Intel's 82579V Gb ethernet controller. If it's so bloody buggy it shouldn't be used on ASUS's products any more.

I really need to get this fixed ASAP or I'm going to have to RMA the board next week and I really don't want to deal with another one of these ports.

FWIW, the reason I'm trying to resolve this asap is b/c I need to send out for the rebates my equipment qualified for by the end of next week and I want everything working before I go cutting off the UPC barcodes.

Well, cat 6 cable here, cisco switch, x79 with the onboard intel, still disconnect, the intel 1000pt dual port (using since 2006) never got a single problem.

p.s. even you don't have disconnect, it still have many bugs, you can find them in the windows event viewer, one of them say "TCP/IP has chosen to restrict the scale factor due to a network condition. This could be related to a problem in a network device and will cause degraded throughput."

Dynamic IP.
