My suggestion is to download and use the drivers from the ASUS support page for your motherboard. They work and I have tested these myself.
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

Do we really have to install Intel chipset for Windows 8?
There are no “unknown” devices associated with chipset…
The only one “unknown” devise is associated with MEI driver…
Btw here is the newest chipset 9.3.0.1026

Which version are you trying to install?

Yes. You should never stay with what Windows installs. Never (unless there is no other driver for your hardware and that Windows version). Those are 99.9% of the time just drivers that offer basic functionality for the Windows OOBE (Out Of Box Experience). If they're made by Microsoft they don't offer any optimizations or platform specific support, they are just made to "work" with anything. And if they're made by the actual license holder then they're always outdated, can have things disabled to be compliant with Windows OOBE and many times are badly installed due to them not utilizing the manufacturer's installer (I've seen nvidia drivers installed by Windows Update mess up Windows' own SFC mechanism when updated with the normal nvidia package..everytime the user run sfc /scannow, sfc reported that it could not fix the display drivers as it was trying to revert them to the ones installed by Windows Update).

I just corrected links for 9.3.0.1026

That version is not for Chip X79

No, x79 chipset drivers Jaketown and Patsburg ver 9.2.3.1029 (dated October 5 2012) are included in 9.3.0.1026

I actually did download the drivers from Asus' website. But I do wonder if they are needed as suggested. Thanks.

The version I was installing is from the Asus website under Windows 8 64:

Intel(R) Chipset Software Installation Utility V9.2.3.1025 for Windows XP/Vista/7 32bit & 64bit.(WHQL)

The other 2 available are beta drivers. That's what confused me. I am installing it on a Windows 8 64bit OS, and I didn't think there would be a problem even though Windows 8 isn't specified.

Thanks.

Hi, Hopper

Me too obtain the same problem, I think it's the USB driver installer.
When you run the installer automatically is unzipped Chip folder in the directory C / folder Windows, you have to delete it.
